Here is another reason to dislike them--I PIF two weeks ago, they reported to the CRAs two days ago, and guess what?  They reported LAST MONTH'S balance.

Jerks.

Because they report the balance on the last day of the month.  HSBC does that to everyone...if you paid it in Jan it would have updated the 0 balance.

Both said not enough credit history.  Thats apparently the one excuse they use that you can't talk your way out of on a recon.

Pappy, I have the feeling that I've already asked you this a half dozen times, and if so, I hope you'll forgive me, but have you joined a credit union yet? Even if they blow you off for a card initially, 6 months of business with one will generally make them smile. Same thing often happens with a genuinely local bank, as opposed to the local branch of the National Federal Bank of Greater Megalopolises.

Sometimes you need to get that one decent-limit card, often from a CU, to make other banks look at you like you're ready to eat Thanksgiving at the grown-ups' table.

Hauling is correct.

I had less than 6 months of credit history, had just gotten my Orchard card in June of 2008, joined NFCU(renewed my 18 y/o inactive account) and was approved for both the nRewards Visa and MC each with a 2500 limit. The CSR who I placed my application with -did- ask me if I had an existing card, which I did(the Orchard), and he basically implied that I wouldnt have gotten approved if not for having the Orchard card. So starter cards do have their benefits.

My Orchard CL is intact and has not been slashed, but my cash advance amount was cut to 1/4 of what it was a month ago. No big deal, as I do not ever take cash advances from any of my cards.
