How would you allocate my CL?

Hi friendly and knowleadgeable people at myfico.

Currently i have an older Citi AAdvantage Platinum at $23.5K and a newer Citi Prestige at $11.5K . Due to the recent changes in Citi cards, i am wishing to reallocate my credit lines and product change the AA product into a more useful one. I am not getting value anymore of AA.

I am planning on moving $21,500 of the AA into the Prestige to position it at $33K. Is it a good idea to leave the AA at $2k?? I would never use it, only plan on keeping it open, most likely as another Product - Double Cash or Costco Visa as it is my oldest credit card (1 year and some months)

Or you would never leave a Citi card so low? Would having a lower limit card impact me for my future applications? I only have 3 cards. The Prestige, AA and a 1 week old Hilton Honors at $10K, that *should* grow in 61 days to $30K.

Or you would reallocate my CL between the AA and the Prestige differently?

Thanks in advance

My goal is too keep getting approved but with bigger SL (say 20K+) for my future cards applications and i am also afraid of bucketing my AA card?? (is this possible? that my AA stops growing or changes somehow because now is smaller than 10k or 5k??, it has been growing steadily by SP from Citi every 6 months - 7,000-8,000 CLIs each time)

Re: How would you allocate my CL?

Some Citi cards have a required minimum that can only remain as a baseline, but it depends on the product. Also, they do not do 'reallocations' per se, not like Chase or BoA, for instance.

In order to 'shift' CLs, a HP will be required. UW will determine if CLs can be moved.

You may need to ask for a supervisor in order to accomplish your request.
Basically, you'd need to state that you wish to reduce the CL on the AA card to $2K and increase the CL on Prestige card to $33K.

And, if you no longer plan on using the AA card, I'd entertain a PC to see what options are available for it.

Once reduced, it's future growth would largely depend on your overall profile, income, internal factors, etc., and no one here would know what that would yield down the road. You'd have to exercise that option (if you wish).

Re: How would you allocate my CL?

I've been out of the Citi TY world for a year and a half, but I think you could convert to DC and use it as an off-category card, then transfer the rewards to become TYs. So it might make sense to keep a useful CL on DC.

Keep in mind the Costco Visa requires a Costco membership. If you wouldn't have one anyway, that is effectively a $60+ annual fee. (I shop there frequently and am happy to pay $120.) But I only use it for the extended warranty and gas, with other stuff going on my BofA card.

Personal spend: Amex Gold, Amex Schwab Plat., BofA PR+CCR(x2), Costco
Business use: Amex Bus. Plat., BBP, Lowes Amex AU, CFU AU
Perks: Delta Plat., United Explorer, IHG49, Hyatt, "Old SPG"
Mostly SD: Freedom Flex, Freedom, Arrival
Upgrade/Downgrade games: ED, BCE
SUB chasing: AA Platinum Select

Re: How would you allocate my CL?

Thanks Finstar and Was for pointing out the correct terminology and the easier explanation to the CS agent on what i'd like to do.

I called Citi and they explained to me that the minimum for Double Cash and AA or Costco is $2K. The supervisor explained me that this process would take around 60 days at Citi "backend" level, the shift plus the PC. And that it will require an HP.

As i don't have an ITIN or SSN, wouldn't it be the same? I mean it doesn't really matter for me if it's an SP or an HP.

After reading Was comment i am thinking then instead leave the Citi AA, soon most likely to be DC at $10K instead of $2K so it could be more useful. The thing is i cant make my mind wherever the Costco or the DC for the product change.

I am living abroad 80% of the time, so the enticing part of the Costco is No FTF + it's a Visa and Citi has still the protections with Visa, right? Bad part is i don't have Costco membership currently so would have to pay. We do shop at Costco. But then again is 60$ and my i can use my brother's membership if i need to buy something at Costco.

Double Cash i like it, like low maintenance cards, if i am going to sock drawer it why pick an AF card. No AF is perfect for my use, problem is that 3% transaction fee when if.. feel like using the DC in Europe, (which i think it would be impossible?) having the Prestige and Hilton, why use the DC at EU.

I might be convinced in leaving the donor card at $10k whatever it turns out to be...

Re: How would you allocate my CL?

Leave enough on a card to where the expected monthly use keeps your utilization to a low point (< 8.9, <17, etc). Do that for all cards. If you use one over the other more, obviously that one gets a higher CL. This assumes you report balances and don't want to deal with the hassle of paying before a card reports, etc.

Put some thought into it, because Citi "charges" you for it (a HP), unlike Amex.

Re: How would you allocate my CL?

DC would be good. Then you could go out and pick up a Citi Premier for the 60,000 bonus TY points and have a full Citi ecosystem to work with.
