I HATE MACYS!

I haven't used my Macy's card in a while and was trying to pay down the balance since it was close to the limit which was only $300.  I called today to check the balance and it said something totally different than what it should be.  I spoke to someone and come to find out they have been lowering my limit $10 it seems each month!  Something about something being on my credit report that was reporting and making them lower my limit.  I've never heard of such a thing!  So needless to say I just closed the account out of frustration.  I've been a member since 2006 and have only been given 2 increases since opening.  And they didn't even ask me why I was closing it or if there was anything they could do for me to keep the account open, which means they really didn't value me as a customer anyway.  I know you're not supposed to close an account with a balance, but whatever.  Macys is the worst.

neg info incl high util is a common red flag and used as a reason for CLD by macy's and others.

check your reports if you are unsure about what they are referring to so that you have the most up to date info before reopening and requesting CL restoral- that is, if you go that route-- I would.

Re: I HATE MACYS!

Macys dislikes carrying balances on their card for a certain length of time. DW carried a balance for 6-7 months and they also incrementally CLD'd her.

Re: I HATE MACYS!

Macys is also not at the top of my list since their backdoor number just shut me down on recoding a hard hit, after i specifically asked the CSR if a CLI request would be hard or soft, and she told me soft.  UGH!

Glad I'm not the only one who dislikes Macys!  They caught me to with the hard inq after they told me it would be soft.

Re: I HATE MACYS!

As has been noted numerous times on the boards before, most CSRs are woefully ignorant in terms of credit reporting, and do not understand the difference between a hard pull and a soft pull.  As a general rule of thumb, if you request a CLI, it will probably cost you a hard pull.

Re: I HATE MACYS!

i think this is against the CARD act, isn't it?  or is that just for interest rates that they can't do stuff to you based on other entities' reporting?

Re: I HATE MACYS!

DH has had their card for about two years....we've asked for 3 or 4 increases and received them all without a hard pull.
