Re: I Have a Credit Card Confession

OP, are you rebuilding from some sort of credit issues in the past? There is nothing wrong with paying charges as soon as they post, but it does take effort to keep up with all those payments.

Personally I don’t care if my utilization goes over 50% on a card in a month, because I know the score fluctuations are relatively minor.

I am methodical about making sure all intended payments are lined up and set for relevant due dates, after I have reconciled the statement a few days after it prints. Everyone should do at least that, but more frequently is definitely only optonal, not gaining too many points.

If there are bad habits in the past however, I can understand wanting to be extra cautious to not get behind again.

Re: I Have a Credit Card Confession

My goal was just to build a credit score. I was one of those people who went through life paying for everything in cash. I had no credit cards or loans prior to joining the forums.

half of my cards carries balances. AZEO is too much for me to track. I already plan my monthly spending 2 years ahead with an excel sheet. aye.

I had a refund issued to my Discover Card of about $50, which disturbed my normal AZEO pattern. I usually let the Discover card report a small balance, however due to the refund hitting on the reporting date, it reported as zero yesterday and as a result my Experian score dropped 17 points. Equifax and TransUnion have not updated yet. Hoping to gain these points back by letting another card report tomorrow. Smiley SadScreen Shot 2018-12-14 at 11.22.56 AM.png

Re: I Have a Credit Card Confession

Yeah, you'll get the points back. There's no reason to panic. The silver lining is that you now know what your "all cards at zero" hit is.

Note that Discover will report whenever you ask them to. It's always an option to ask them to report once you have a positive balance. Chase is another bank that'll do this. Most banks won't.

Thank you for this tip, I had no idea that Discover offered this option.

I must confess. This is me.
