I applied for an Amex Green about 6 months ago, it was my first charge card and second card with Amex.
I foolishly did little research on the other charge cards, I just saw that the others had a higher annual fee and didn't even bother looking at the bonus categories to see if they would benefit me. A few weeks ago Amex updated their PRG card and now I am full of regret.
I am looking to fill in for where my CSP lacks (groceries and gas) which is why I think it would be a good card to have. The $100 airline fee credit would come in handy too.
I have family in England I would like to visit at least once a year from now on, so I am looking ultimately for travel rewards from here on out.
That is why for now I am 'sock drawing' my EDC and my BoA cash card.
Would I still qualify for the signup bonus if I cancel my Green card this month and applied for the PRG?
Also, any other travel rewards cards I should be considering that offer bonsues in these categories?
Search for the 50k for 1k spend offer and apply
The only reason I am a little worried was because when I did search for the 50K-$1k spend offer it does clearly state next to it:
" If you are identified as a current or former American Express Card Member, this offer may not be available to you."

Clear your cookies and apply incognito.
Yes, but I am going to be applying using the same SSN, name and address?
So the card is going to be added to my Amex account anyway.
Anybody had any experience with this in the past? Or would it just be best chatting with Amex/calling them and asking?

As long as the system does not detect that you're a current Amex cardholder, the system identifies you by your cookies, you're good to go. It does not matter that it is the same SSN, name, address etc. The system only looks at your cookies. Stupid, yes. But good for us.
I applied to the PRG with the 50k sign up bonus while being a current Amex cardholder. I received the bonus without any issues.
Perfect, thank you!
Will be applying in the next month or so for sure!

Well, that's all fine, however you may want to think a little about how your Travel Card strategy is going to play out. Chase UR points go to different airlines than AMEX MR points, British Air and Virgin Atlantic being some which overlap.
Also, when you step up to add the PRG, keep in mind that AF needs to be justified not on the two points you see for groceries and gas, but for only the 1 marginal point you get, over the point you'd already get with the Freedom or CSP for any general spend. It raises your necessary spend requirement to cover the AF with points earnings. The more cards with AF, the more diluted the spend becomes.
Your call of course, but with the Green card just figured out, a little more research and asking questions about details may be in order.
Or, just go for the PRG. The first year is no AF anyway, and that gives you time to figure out the programs.

No problem! Good luck.
