I have an unresolved issue

A charge in the amount of half the credit limit on this Amex card took place. A few days later the charge appeared as both pending and posted. Customer service says it's one and the same charge and that the transition takes longer as they are more careful about verifying large amounts, but the problem is the available credit on the card is now listed as zero!

Re: I have an unresolved issue

I have seen this happen a few times for smaller charges.  I would call the merchant and have them take care of it.

Re: I have an unresolved issue

Oddly enough it appears it was the merchant who brought it upon herself (and me too). Her Internet was down at the time at the end of last week, so she called in the charge to Amex. Then yesterday she somehow found out she had to give them the card's security code as well, which triggered a total of two pending entries for what Amex says is the same charge. One of the entries changed to posted this morning.

Re: I have an unresolved issue

You just have to wait for the pending charge to fall off, which should only take a few business days.

This happened with my Apple Rewards card last month at the Apple Store. Their credit card processing kept timing out, and it took a few tries. When I got home, I had three $1600 charges on my card, taking me over my limit temporarily, and leaving me with $0 of available credit.

The two additional charges fell off a couple days later.

Re: I have an unresolved issue

I work in CS environment, if I take a payment for someone, we have to get Card number, expiration date, security code and the credit card MUST match the zip code that the card bills to. Many times the card will go to a different address than their own, and even though I ask them "does this card bill to a different address" if they say no and it really did, the transaction is unsuccessful, however the card owner does see a temporary "hold" which creates confusion for the customer. The banks do release the holds back to the accounts but it can take several business days.

Re: I have an unresolved issue

this happened to my first charge on PRG ($1800).  AMEX actually called me and verified the charge and the pending fell off in a couple days.
