I keep wanting to apply for the Chase Freedom but scared I might get denied.

I keep wanting to apply for the Chase Freedom but scared I might get denied.

I'm thinking of applying for the Chase Freedom card. I have 2 cards Capital One Quicksilver that was PC'd from a Platinum card ($2,300 CL) which I've had for 8 months now. I got approved for a Discover It about a month ago with a CL of $1,250. With only 8 months of history do I stand a chance to be approved for the Freedom? When I go to the Chase site I don't prequalify for any of their cards. I would like some opinions. My credit scores are 724 across the board. Thanks in advance!

I think you are heading into the right direction but for best chances of approval I would wait until you have at least 1 year of history.

I agree, you're on a very solid track, but give it some more time.

I hear many people get approved with thin files but with my luck I won't be one of them. Lol. Btw, no baddies or anything. My file is clean and I PIF every month.

Thanks for the advice! Should I wait until I prequalify?

Personally, I'd wait about 6 months in general to let history build on your two open accounts and to pass the year threshold. At that point I suspect you'll probably prequal anyway.

Very true. After I get the Freedom I plan to garden for a while before applying for anything.

Generally that's a good idea unless your credit files are frozen or you've opted out of prescreened offers.

Chase has pretty solid offers on their prequal. You should be getting them once you've got a little over 1 year history.

While there are always exceptions (as many will tell you on this board), if I were you, I'd wait until I got a prequal, or the history is about 1.5 years old with scores around the 720+ mark (which you already are, with scores). The higher the scores, the better.

Oh and BTW make sure you don't have more than 4 cards when you app. (Read up on Chase 5/24 rule if you haven't already.)

Yeah, the 5 accounts in 2 years rule.

Yeah, one year of credit history is almost a must with Chase. They easily turn down people with shorter history, even for Freedom. Having a checking account with them could also help and they very often offer sign-up bonuses for that as well, if you don't already have an account.
