Exactly and this is why I want to take responsibility for the debt as well. He's not asking me to do this and if I asked to be taken off to help my credit, I have no doubt he would say fine...it's me and what I feel is the right thing to do is transfer some of the debt. I know that being an AU on the card I can transfer some of this debt...any suggestions???

I get what you are saying and if it were me I would either
1) Ask to be removed as AU so my score could improve so I can get a higher score and qualify for a good BT card
or
2) I would take out a personal loan to pay it off and improve my score by having the credit mix.
I hope this helps!
You can get taken off as AU, but still help DF pay the debt by just giving him a check. There is no need to punish yourself with it.
You are definitely suffering from a lack of accounts. You generally want three cards. I would apply for a Discover IT for you to have in your own right. Since you have a child, I'm guessing you also have a fairly large grocery bill. I think I applied for an Amex BCP with scores (and profile thickness) around where yours are. That would give you some diversity and the ability to let limits grow in the future.
