I have had an Applied Bank credit card since 1999. It is my oldest credit card, followed my Cap One (2009) then Merrick Bank (2010). The only thing in between Applied bank is a car loan in 2002 and a personal loan in 2003. All of my prime cards I obtained this year. I know that sooner or later, my AAOA will take a drop, and it is not great now, due to the number of new accounts that I have opened this year, but it is time for Applied bank and Merrick Bank to go from my portforlio.
I am having the most difficult time finding info on the boafds related to closing an account with them. Anyone have any experience? I can not ever seem to get anyone on the phone. Any guidance is appreciated!
Yeah, 10 yrs. But if you're going to do it, do it sooner than later. Cap One is solid. Merrick, not so good either. Kicked Merrick to the curb already. Decent limit but all you do is pay. No rewards. Cap One is my second oldest card at almost 11 yrs now. Start rebuilding your new portfolio.

Knowing what I know now, I am like yikes. I can't beleive that I have paid both of them sooooo much money. But they have now served their purpose, and I have cards that are way better now, all the way around. Now if I could just figure out how to get rid of Applied bank, I would be good!
If you get the paper statement in the mail, is there an address for account inquiries? Or maybe you can find an address from your online account.
I would just mail them a letter stating you want the account 'closed by customer request'.
Many people would recommend you send it by CMRR so you have proof of mailing it.

They did what we needed at the time. Once you can get the "prime" cards, it't time to set them free. Applied bank is old and I know it will hurt. Are they charging you monthly?
