I was on the IHG website. I hadn't yet logged in. I picked an "all points" award rate. I logged in to complete the reservation, and saw the cash portions of the "points + cash" rates had fallen by 15%. All other rates, including the "all cash" and "all points" rates, were unchanged. So I booked a cash + points rate.
I like saving a few bucks, but how did that happen?
I am Platinum elite from having the IHG Chase card.
It could be a number of things:
1. Rates could have changed
2. Your account could have had a targeted promotion for points + cash
3. The rate adjusted accordingly to reflect how much you would be paying with points factored in.
2. Your account could have had a targeted promotion for points + cash
I just looked again on IHG and found it. It's a Platinum/Spire promo.

Another question:
Say an award night has a 25k "all points" award rate and I book a "15k plus cash" rate (which appears to involve a 25k redemption and a separate 10k purchase).
Do I get 1500 or 2500 points back as the 10% redeemed points rebate from Chase?
If I get all 2500 back I might hit 2.2 cpp!
