Re: If You Are Already an AMEX Card Holder...

Yes, if you apply through existing AMEX customer, AMEX will only hard pull it when you are approved.

Now if you apply it through the long application version (aka not an AMEX customer), AMEX will hard pull you regardless.

This all applies to the business cards too?

Re: If You Are Already an AMEX Card Holder...

It would be a SP if you're not approved like others have said.  However, unless you have perfect reports with a fairly thick file and decent AAoA, they most likely would not approve a revolver with your current scores.  You'd want to be over the 700 mark (closer to the mid 700s) for a rather sure approval for an AMEX revolver.

As far as I know similar rules apply to the business cards, it becomes a bigger YMMV issue there however. Smiley Wink

Re: If You Are Already an AMEX Card Holder...

those score are from a couple months ago and yeah im going to wait for some $0 balances to report at the minumum.

if its not harmful to apply though...would it really matter if i gave it a shot? Would AMEX get mad if i applied and got denied, then applied again in a month or two, when scores are higher?

Re: If You Are Already an AMEX Card Holder...

I just did the "are you pre-approved?" for the business cards and then next page showed me this....it sorta doesnt seem like i was actually pre approved for these though...or does it?

Just says choose...and apply now...

That doesn't look like the pre-approval\selected screen. It looks like the screen one gets when they don't find a pre-selected\approved offer. IIRC

Do they pull hard if you apply for another card, or is it just a soft pull?

I have an AMEX Green for about 6-7 months now and im interested in getting a revolving AMEX card at some point...possibly the Blue Cash Everyday. High 600's get me there or no?

Side note: i have a sole proprietors business ive started recently...Ive looked at business cards they have (briefly) and liked the "SimplyCash Business card" as a dedicated card for my business expenses. How hard is that to get? I have an EIN but obviously it would need t obe personally guarunteed...

From my most recent experience, my approval was a soft pull. I apped for a Platinum with already 2 other amex accounts. I haven't gotten a notification that there was an inquiry though

Have you checked your EX report?

I haven't pulled it, but I would think I'd get a notification..

Re: If You Are Already an AMEX Card Holder...

Slightly off topic, but does Amex care if current cardmembers apply for different cards twice in 30 days? I know new account applications have to be 30 days apart, but if you already have an account does it still hold true? I was declined once (with a 731 and 6 months of Zync history, thanks Amex...), but 40% of my utilization just dumped off this week.

That's borderline. You may want to wait until the AMEX green is 1 year old and your EX FICO is 700 or above before going for BCE.
