I am already an Amex cardholder.. If I were to apply for an additional card and be denied it would be a soft pull, and approved a hard pull. Does it make a difference If I were to apply over the phone or on the computer?
Also, I am waiting for discover to update this months balance before applying.. It has been over 10 days and it has not updated.. Any ideas how much longer?
Thx
Either way is good. I apped for my 2nd Amex online and was approved last year. I don't think it makes a difference imo. You are already a customer.
I agree that it should not make a difference how you apply.
No idea on your Discover card. What is the statement date ? Usually creditors will report within a few days after a new statement is created.

Discover statement close date was on the 10th.. It wil report with a zero balance, and they finally doubled my CL to a whopping 1500.. It was an auto though, so no complaints.

Strange - I would have expected it to show up by now....I'd give it a few more days....

Discover still has not updated.. Do you think that this is possible because my CL was increased during this billing period?

Discover is sorta known for this occasionally with regards to sloppy tradeline updating. If it's an issue, I believe you can call Discover and they will do an out-of-cycle update, but for another credit card as a rationale, YMMV.
To point something out though that's kind of important with Amex, check your EX report for their last SP date: they only do one SP every two months on their customers from what I've heard, and this is what they use to form an initial approval or denial... so not only do you need your Discover balance to update, you might need to wait up to two months before you apply for the Amex if you really want to get the best chance for approval.

I wouldn't think that this would make a difference.....have you checked either TU or EQ to see if it has updated there ? Maybe the problem is with EX ?
