So...... Hypothetical question.....
I am about 6 months away from having all my COs and lates fall off my report and having really good credit (Keeping the fingers crossed, knock on wood, kiss a leprechaun, or what ever else is good luck). I hope to be in the mid 700s in November. I should have absolutely no negative information, less than 9% Utilization, and about 5+ years AAOA. I should also only have 1 or 2 inqs.
So I have been doing a lot of research and planing my next CC. I currently only have (2) CCs, both Capital One. One "standard" Platinum and one with "No Hassle Rewards". I'm sure I'll have a hard time getting them to PC or even CLI so I'll probably cancel one in November and the other a year later (so I won't hurt my AAOA too much).
I have decided to limit myself to (3 or 4) cards, no more, no less. In order to have a good mix, I think (1) Charge Card and (2 or 3) CCs should be a good combination, what do you think?
So here is the Hypothetical question, if you could only have (4) CCs, what would be your top choices??
So far, this is my initial goal......
AMEX Zync or Green
AMEX BCE
Chase Sapphire or Freedom
Capital One Venture (I really owe Capital One since they really did help me rebuild)
What would your (3) be????
Personally I'd do just BCE/Freedom.
Not too keen on Cap1 products, even if the Venture is supposed to be a card.
Not a big fan of Charge cards, but only because I'm a low profile spender and 95% of my spending goes on my BCE/Freedom.
Wish I could qualiffy for Navy Federal or USAA.... but those are out of the question for me....
CapitalOne has actually been pretty good for me, I can't really complain. They have servered their purpose, to help rebuild my credit.... I just wish one of them could grow with me and PC or CLI, but if I'm not able to, they'll eventually have to go.......

Amex preferred gold
Amex zync
chase freedom
navy federal cu cash rewards
Is the preffered gold really worth the AF vs the Zync, in your opinion?
1. Visa Freedom (w/Chase Checking)
2. MasterCard CSP
3. BCE/BCP (depending on your spending habits)
4. Discover More
mine are;
amex costco/bce
citi ty preferred world mastercard
JP Morgan select visa signature
I'm shooting for the Chase Trifecta so in addition to a Chase Checking account, I would get:
Chase Freedon, Chase Sapphire Preferred, and AMEX Bluecash Everyday.
Personally I like AMEX charge cards. Great way to break into AMEX. Aside from that, I value AMEX charge cards for their lack of effect on utilization and depending on your needs, the benefits can outweigh the costs. MR points are less useful than in the past, but are really useful if used properly. I had to get pretty last minute tickets to Bali. Cheapest flights I could find were like 3k a person. Ended up using 110k USAir miles each for business class tickets of which some were taken from MR points. The business class tickets we got were priced at around 10k a person. Funny thing is we didn't fly one segment on USAir. Instead United to Austrialia on their new planes. Singapore Airlines to Bali via Singapore on the new A380 (awesome). Royal Thai back to US via Bangkok. So even spending the business class miles and using economy seats, the MR points would be worth 3 cents. At business class fares, we are looking closer to 10 cents a point. VERY NICE!
I probably wouldn't app to Chase (unless I really wanted their card) until I had other cards showing limits around what a want since it takes hard pulls to get CLIs out of Chase. Assuming your credit is good enough to get AMEX revolver, I would get AMEX revolver and wait the 61 days to 3X CLI and wait for new limit to report then app for Chase.
