), $29 grandfathered in annual fee (card has been advertised as no AF for YEARS). Every year I ask them to waive the AF or product change to Quicksilver and they refuse. I filed a CFPB complaint and got a canned response. Is there a secret to getting a product change with a bucketed card? Should I just start maxing it out and paying it off in full every month? If there's no possible way, I will just close it. Thanks for the help!
I would first apply for a new card like a Venture product and see what they say because others have said their old cards seem to be bucketed, but when they apply for a new product, a huge SL results.
After applying, I would consider closing the old Platinum account since the AF is not worth it these days.
I am considering apping for a Venture X card to replace my ancient, bucketed QS1....
I have a bucketed Capital One card too (yes, it's a 5178). It's 20+ years old and from a very different credit situation than I'm in now. There's no AF on it, so I don't care. I put one recurring charge (a little under $150) on it every month and let the cash back accumulate. It was $9,000 and they cut it down to $2,000 last year because I don't use it enough. I have no intention of closing it, but if they decide to, oh well.
Wow so cards that start 5178 are bucketed I'm doom at 300 bucks lol they did let me upgrade it to Quicksilver though.
5178 bucket is a myth imo. Both of my cards start in 5178 and I have had multiple CLI throughout the years of owning my 2x Capital One cards. Also was able to PC my platinum cards into quicksilver and the venture one @Anonymous My brothers card also starts with 5178..
i just checked my card and it starts with 5178
my CL is $16,750
this was my first card in the US - probably started at $500 limit
i used this for EVERYTHING for about 2 years

I say close it. My first capital one card I had with them was a secured card of $200 (only deposited $49). It never graduated (though i did have a downfall so it made sense at the time on why it didnt), there wasnt a CLI, no credit steps, and even now as my credit is way better and I been approved for better cards, they refused to upgrade this to unsecured. I gave up hoping i could keep my oldest card and possibly PC to Savor or Quicksilver once its a unsecured card and closed it recently without regret. Complaining to CFPB wont help though since creditors arent bound by law to upgrade your card or change it over.

I had my first card with them for 10 years, limit was $1000, which was doubled, it was $500 to begin. They refused to increase the CL and suggested to cancel and reapply. I did and got $10,000 limit
