I'm not sure what spooks CUs and what doesn't, but our first high limit card was with a local CU when our scores weren't great, not too long after we'd been CLD'd by Chase and Citi IIRC. Maybe in January, try one?

I've read/heard many benefits from having a CU card. I do not have a CU account at the moment but does not hurt to go that route .

Re: In need of higher limit cards!

Yeah cu card would work if you absolutely need a higher limit. I asked my question because personally, I don't make many purchases over $2k, and seeing that you have a $2k limit on one of your cards I would be happy with that lol. If need be, then just pay into your accounts so u can still use that cl.

RIght now I have 4 credit cards:

1) Capital One Secured $500   Aug 2014

2) US Bank LifeMiles $300       Aug 2014

3) Barclay $1250                      May 2015

4) Chasee Freedom $2200      May 2015

My util is between 12-17%

Latest FICO 8 scores: EQ 668  2 inq TU 9 inq 664 EX 653 2 inq

I have 3 unpaid collection from 2011 and student loan lates.

I keep checking Cap One for any pre-qual offers and no luck. I really need a higher limit card and not sure where to start. I know Venture is first that comes to mind. Any suggestions would be appreciated Smiley Happy happy holidays!

The collections are holding you back.  Once you have them settled, hopefully PFD, then I think you will have better luck getting higher approvals.  As my collections have aged off, I have had better luck with bank card approvals.  I would only get prequals for Platinum and QS1, then finally the Venture and QS showed up.  It will happen when the collections are taken care of.  Good luck. Re: In need of higher limit cards!

Us Bank is very conservative. Even with positive payment history, I wouldn't expect much from them. CapOne will probably give you VentureOne or QuicksilverOne if you really need a higher limit card. Venture may be a stretch.

That said, those cards aren't great so a CU will be a better bet I feel. Talk to a banker at one and see what they can do.

Have you considered apping for business cards? I would think those would provide higher limits.

Re: In need of higher limit cards!

I would wait until January, when you've PFDed the two collections. Note that just settling them won't help your score. You have to get a pay for delete agreement, which will get the collection removed from your record After that, I'd see if your scores are good enough for an Amex. You might have decent luck with the 3x CLI trick that Amex tends to offer.

That's exactly how my Cap1 prequals are right now. Once I get my collections taken care of Venture better come my way lol

I only have one biz card from US Bank and prequal always shows a set APR for one of their biz cards and I have a feeling it will be low like my current one...$500!!
