I've read/heard many benefits from having a CU card. I do not have a CU account at the moment but does not hurt to go that route .
are you sure you are opted in? using correct street name spelling? etc? you should be getting some prequals with those scores. especially from C1
@Anonymous wrote:RIght now I have 4 credit cards:
1) Capital One Secured $500 Aug 2014
2) US Bank LifeMiles $300 Aug 2014
3) Barclay $1250 May 2015
4) Chasee Freedom $2200 May 2015
My util is between 12-17%
Latest FICO 8 scores: EQ 668 2 inq TU 9 inq 664 EX 653 2 inq
I have 3 unpaid collection from 2011 and student loan lates.
I keep checking Cap One for any pre-qual offers and no luck. I really need a higher limit card and not sure where to start. I know Venture is first that comes to mind. Any suggestions would be appreciated
happy holidays!
The collections are holding you back. Once you have them settled, hopefully PFD, then I think you will have better luck getting higher approvals. As my collections have aged off, I have had better luck with bank card approvals. I would only get prequals for Platinum and QS1, then finally the Venture and QS showed up. It will happen when the collections are taken care of. Good luck. (P.S. when you want to respond to a specific post, click the "quote button" and it will bring up the posting).
I would wait until January, when you've PFDed the two collections. Note that just settling them won't help your score. You have to get a pay for delete agreement, which will get the collection removed from your record After that, I'd see if your scores are good enough for an Amex. You might have decent luck with the 3x CLI trick that Amex tends to offer.

That's exactly how my Cap1 prequals are right now. Once I get my collections taken care of Venture better come my way lol

Have you considered apping for business cards? I would think those would provide higher limits.
I only have one biz card from US Bank and prequal always shows a set APR for one of their biz cards and I have a feeling it will be low like my current one...$500!!
