You need to put the country of which you are a citizen. Residency is not citizenship. Florida is a state, not a country, so it does not count.
What Wolf said....Just last year I became a US citizen after being in the US for 26 years. I had a green card and had to put my home country as the country of my citizenship every time. Hello from yet another Floridian!

Did you need a Social Security number to apply for credit in the US?

Yes, I did. Green card holders get SSNs.

Orchard bank is cap one now. Since you have cap one, go to local cus and see if they have any programs for new credit.
Since when did they get together?
What do you mean, contact Cap1 and ask them?

Cap 1 purchased the majority of HSBC America's (Orchard was a part of this) credit card portfolio back in March (regulator approval at least, might've been announced earlier), think acquisition closed in May. Most of our tradelines were updated to Cap One instead of the old HSBC (NV) on our credit reports in June.
What Crash was suggesting was go find local CU's (Credit Unions, forum abbreviation) as they tend to be more generous with building/rebuilding people and also are just all around good to have anyway for future options later. Not all, but many fall into this category and they unilaterally are more relationship oriented than any of the national banks.
Thank you very much for the clarification. I will do that, but how would I know what CU offer HSBC Orchard or they all do? Sorry for the dumb question...

Ah, now I understand the confusion Sorry! HSBC is a company. Orchard was a brand name of that company, they aren't credit products.
Local CU's are other companies which also offer other credit cards, just like HSBC does (or did in the case of Orchard). Crash was suggesting going and talking to other lenders and see if they can help you out as well.
@Anonymous wrote:I recommend Orchard for who does not owe or had problems with banks, they do check ChexSystem. For others that have issues with banks or checks, go directly to Cap One & WellsFargo. Gd luck
Orchard = DENIED (3-29-2012)
Cap One = APPROVED (4-11-2012)
WellsFargo = DENIED (6-28-2012) then DENIED (6-30-2012) then APPROVED (7-01-2012)
IMO, Having both a Capital One and Wells Fargo is excellent start. I would wait until Capital One is a year old before trying for anything else.
