@I closed a Capital One Kawasaki card with $10k limit and my Paypal Smart connect @ $800 both accounts were about 2 years old. I now have $22,000 in available credit.
I also opened up 2 new accounts American Express Blue Cash and Chase Freedom both with $2000 limits. I feel like Im in prime territory now with room to grow.
I'm generally in favor of keep accounts open, so long as they don't cost you money. However, there are definitely good reason to trim. AFAIK, Cap One doesn't PC cobranded cards, so if it no longer served a purpose, then closing it probably wasn't a bad option. It sounds like you'd simply prefer to grow with other lenders that have products that better suit your needs.

Hey I noticed u have a Sony Visa fron Cap1 like I do..... what are ur plans with ur sony visa may I ask?
I tried to PC my sony visa to either QS1 or QS but its not happening I found out.
This card has a bogus point system where everything is freakin' high for no reason. I have close to 9000 points and all I can get is a 1 dvd.
my limit is 2250.....just dont know what to do with it.lol
I've not seen 1 person who has more than 2500 limit on this card on this forum. ever
How long have you had your Sony Card? Have you ever had a CLI on it? I got mine in March, so I'll ask for a CLI in September

Capital one and US bank have been great. I have thinned out some GE cards, but am sticking with the MC/Visa versions.
My attitude is the same.
I agree, your credit profile should feel good to you. And moving into TLs you actually enjoy and will use is a great feeling
+1000
5 years from now we are looking at buying a house. We might start axing cards before then (I am looking hard at USAA and PNC). We are also simple credit users. We have one for internet purchases, one for him, one for me. I suppose we can get tons of cards and start juggling rewards but it sounds like such a hassle. It is better for us to use one card. A friend of mine has 1 for gas, one for groceries, one for eating out, etc. That works for her, and more power to her. The same shoe does not fit on everyone's foot. I don't see any problem with the OP trimming the hedges.

Quoted for truth. CapitalOne, for all the flak they get for being stingy, gets mad respect from me for not trying to put the screws to me when times were tough.
First premier and credit one both have a purpose I suppose, but capital one took a chance on me and has been very kind. They haven't thrown 10k limits at me, but they have been fair when my credit was lacking and have grown a little with me when my credit recovered. I don't live in fear of AA like with other banks. They are what they are And I am very happy with it
Watch44 I agree wholly

I have had it since 4/13 with opening limit of 500, w/credit step went to 750 9/13, and bumped to 2250 on 2/14.
Highest balance to date is 330.....pif always.
its amazing how much I've grown since my discharge. I have to give a pat to myself for this one![]()
Thanks everyone!
I started rebuilding 4 years ago with a $300 WF secured card and worked my way back up. I kept opening accounts because I figure the good will outweigh the bad. In less than 2 years my credit report will be free of my remaining baddies. I think the only thing left for me to do is to let my accounts age and pay off my remaining debt. Last year I purchased my home and my car is only 2 years old so I don't foresee a "need" to seek more credit in the next couple of years.
realistically with my income I have no need for more than 1 one credit card with a $2,000 limit. I looked at my cards and thought what can you do for me? Well my GE store cards can provide 0% promos, Barclay NFL can give me 20% off purchases, Discover, Chase, Amex = cash back.
And If I'm honest, I only opened NFL, Chase & Amex recently for the sign up bonuses. LOL But isn't that my reward?
