Re: Income to Total Credit Line Question

I've got a fairly length, clean file with good credit scores and a decent income (personal and household). Still, I cannot fathom how I could get to 2x my income, much less above. Is it realistic to think if I apply I'll be granted additional credit, because I'm just not seeing it?! As mentioned previously, I got 4506t'd by AmEx when trying to go above $35k total exposure with them between two accounts last year. I don't see how I could reasonably think other companies would extend more credit to me given that! I'm just a smidge above 1 to 1 income to CL for personal, about 1 to 0.65 for household.

You're over thinking it for one. Amex is just one lender of thousands. In 6 months Amex will turn right around and give you even more! Capital One, Chase, Penfed, Navy Fed as well as many others will all extend you just as much as Amex or MORE.That's as long as you keep PIF with clean files. And they'll do it without asking for income verification.

All they can say is no more. It's not that big of a deal really.

Well, I'll have to pick some cards and give it a try once I decide to wander back out of the garden. Smiley Happy  It'll be interesting to see how it goes. AmEx did finally relent on the 4506t and granted me a little more (to be honest, I only asked for another $5k) but I'm a little shy now about asking for more. They won't counter, they'll just request the tax forms and I won't provide them. Nothing to hide, but also no need to let them have them either.

I totally undersatnd. lol

I wouldn't provide them either. I sit at $30K with Amex on one card. I'll still hit them again in 5 months. lol

If they'll let a country hick like me go from $2600 in open tradelines to $330,000 in 13 months. I'm sure you've got more going for you than you think. lol

So Amex gave you a CLI even though you declined to provide the 4506t?  That's unusual!

But I agree with other posters: IF you really want large multiples of your income in CL (and to my mind there is little need for it), just apply to other lenders, some are much more generous than others.

Yup, they sure did. I was completely shocked, and didn't expect them to move AT ALL. That's why I only asked for an additional $5k, I though no way was I getting *anything* without releasing my tax paperwork. Not so - apparently time and useage did the trick for them.

Yeah, as far as multiples of income, I'd need too many cards to make it feasible. I guess I'll just grow the ones I have and replace when something better or more tempting comes along. So far, I'm at 8 cards (7 bank/major plus Target Redcard) and that is plenty for now. I guess...always tempting to go for MOAR!!!!

Hi everyone

Baseline info

Income = $45k give or take)

Current TCL (credit cards) = $56k no loans. Mortgage 10 yrs old never a blemish

Current util  = 9% ( $4.5 )

Hi bal cards =3  1300/2000 and 800/1500 and 1200/2000

Lo Bal cards = 2 cards at <20% rest at or near $0

Baddies = Alot-  none recent and  starting in Sept, they start falling off as all are almost 7years old

I anticipate being 720+ fico by new years ( except for experian which always hated me )

Current question

Right now I am over 100% in income to TCL ratio

I know that noone can give a definate answer but at what point do you think banks will say im at my cl max?

Which banks aree more likely to cut me off based on my income ratio

Right now Synch bank has the biggest eposure with about $30k. Im at the point where I only ask for Synch card CLI on just a few cards

Thanks for any advice

I'm now at 5x my income. Let your usage report! Keep utilization below 10%. I keep mine around 2%. Stay away from excessive amounts of store cards. I don't have any. Though I wouldn't mind a Lowe's card. Once you're around 730 and above with clean reports...the sky is the limit!

I couldn't imagine having THAT much available in credit cards! Smiley Surprised That would be THREE times what we're looking to spend on a house!!

There was a time not long ago I thought the same way. I honestly didn't think it was possible. As long as you're disciplined and don't look at it like money in the bank, you'll be fine.Smiley Wink
