Inqs on apply for multiple CC in short time.

I have heard about if you apply for multiple CC or loan within short time of period, it only count as 1 or 2 inquiries.  Is this true?

I have just applied for 2 CCs within a week.  If it is true I am thinking to apply for one more to take advantage of reward program (Chase Freedom).

Does anyone know about this?  How they count inquiries?

It only works for mortgages or car loans I am afraid - the assumption is that you are only likely to buy one car or house at a time.

it also applies to things like car insurance since normally on cars houses and insurance you are going to shop around for the best rate i thought w/any of those you could do all the shopping w/in a 14 day period

MV is correct, but just to add one point:

With some lenders, if you apply for more than one product on the same day they will only pull once, but it must be on the same day.  I believe Amex works this way, and so do some CUs.  There may be others.

I believe I read somewhere on this forum that that if multiple inqs are pulled from the same CRA in one day, they will be combined on the CR anyway. Doesn't that make it irrelevant whether or not they pull twice, as long as it's some the same CRA?
