sorry to be off topic, but I can't remember, do renting or work security/background clearance checks hurt your FICO score?

Hi there! I can tell you that my rental credit check inquiries are counting against my fico score. I have to say that I think it stinks because there is a distinct difference between applying for credit and finding a place to live!!

Also, in response to an earlier poster, I had inquiries for Feb 08 fall off my reports too. In my instance they look like de-dups. It was nice and gave my score a little boost. For the record, I checked my actual credit bureau reports and then when I saw some of the inq's gone, I got my fico score on one of them to double check. (yes, I'm that OCD about my reports)  As for the OP, they stop counting in score after 12 months but show on reports for 24 months.  I've had several fall off my scores in the last two months while still showing on the actual bureau reports themselves (along with others in the last two years).

They stay on the report for 2 years but lose negative effects after 1 year.

For what it's worth, I had 2 hard inqs from 03/07 disappear from my EX this month (03/08) - just pulled all 3 reports, noticed those were gone.  Had a 15-point increase in score on EX as well, between Feb and March - figured it was partly those inq's falling off, maybe partly due to the 2 cards I got from those inqs hitting one-year anny and oldest card hitting 2-year.
And for some reason, ALL my inqs are on EX - no idea why, but partly because of that, EX is my lowest score.  Others are about 15 points higher.

If you are seeing this on a report from MyFICO, it doesn't mean those INQs are actually gone.  MyFICO reports only show you INQs from the last year, because those reports only tend to show you items that directly affect your FICO score, which INQs stop doing after only one year.
If you pull a report from credit monitoring service or directly from the CRA, you will probably see that the INQs in question are still there, and will be for another year.  They're just not hurting your score any longer.

Thanks for clarifying that, Cheddar.  Crikey - will I EVER learn it all?!?!

I have two on EX, one from Dec '07 and one from December '08.  Amex's CS calculator says my score will go up about 15 points when they drop off.

Your (presumably) old credit history (or at least old compared to mine, which just barely started again 2 years ago after ignorance and foolishness of youth), of course!!:smileywink
