I received my Amex card today and it has a closing date of April 6th which is just over 2 weeks from now. My plan was to buy airline tickets with it but won't have the cash to pay it off until April 7th. If I have a balance on it when it closes on the 6th, will interest be applied to it or will I have a grace period? It's $6000 in tickets so I don't want to get hit with anything. I can wait til the 7th to buy but if a really good deal comes around I want to be able to take advantage of it.

No you won't get hit with interest.
You will have a grace period running from the statement date of April 6th to the payment due date which will probably fall around the end of the month.
