I'm aiming for a CSP in the near future, so I check the "Just For You" at least once a day. (not specifically going for it, just scroll past it so I poke it) Never had any offers. I didn't think having a checking account would do any good, but figured it couldn't hurt. (plus Zelle actually works as advertised, Ally and US Bank always send it 3 day to other Zelle users) I also wanted to see if it made payments faster, similar to US Bank. If I pay my Cash+ via the free gold checking they gave me, it instantly zeros my balance and restores my limits. Worth a note, yes and no. If I pay my CFU via my Chase checking, it instantly restores my limit, but my balance doesn't update til next day. Which is fine, credit reset is usable, balance update isn't. So still technically 'instant' paid.
Now onto the main DP you're all here for:
Opened a Total Checking account with Chase 13 days ago on the 4th and read that Discover Savings is about the only thing that qualifies as a direct deposit nowadays. This was my only option to waive the monthly fee, so I transferred $500 to Chase. The day the deposit credits from Discover, I check my offers and have a pre-qualified (not green check) offer for a Slate, details include solid APR. A slate is pretty useless so it'll sit there, but it wasn't there before. Checking Chase's prequal page yields no offers, so this seems targeted.
Figured this was odd, the day the "waive" direct deposit credits, I get my first 'for you' offer. This had no relation to my CFU in any way. My statement date on it is the 5th, PIF'd and it's been sitting at 0 for over a week. Maybe banking DOES help a little? I recall reading a thread where similar happened to someone else, but I can't for the life of me find it again. Anyone else experience similar?
Interesting DP; it's good to be on their radar.
I hit 5/24 a couple months ago and that's when my Slate and CSP solid APR prequals disappeared from both account and /prequalified.
I've had the CSP for one year this month. And during that time I've had 3 green check marks for the Freedom/Unlimited. Of course I'm so over 5/24 it be another year or two before I'd consider apping.
The offers is exciting at first, until you realize you're over. lol
Although I had though about doing the in Branch application to bypass 5/24. But I really don't need another CC ATM.

@Masterlink what does that mean? I have a Discover Savings account, so I'm curious.

Chase used to list all ACH credits as a direct deposit for bonuses or fee waivers. From what I've been reading on DoC most banks have been shuffled to not working for this purpose. Out of all the accounts I have, Ally, Schwab, US Bank, and Discover. Only the Discover savings ACHs still count as direct deposit to waive the monthly fee. The ACH codings got shuffled, a test from my Ally account lists it as P2P WEB, whereas my Discover lists as PREARRANGE PPD. My employer still uses paper checks, so I don't have any other "direct deposit" way, and it's not my primary account, nor earns interest, so I don't want to park the cash required to meet their daily waive there.
Congrats
It's always such a nice feeling to see that little black star that says "You're Prequalified".
I feel like maybe the post you're looking for was perhaps mine...
I had a similar situation. I opened a checking and savings account (to get the $600 bonus) and after the direct deposit (it seemed at least) I started getting 'just for you' pre-qualified offers. I still don't get anything through the regular website when checking.
Also as a DP I used a BeFrugal transfer to trigger the direct deposit bonus.
A related question - I thought I read somewhere that the APR offered as a good indicator of approval odds. Is this true?

If it shows a single number "solid" apr, the chances are it's a good offer. If it is a range, then it is not. If it shows a green check instead of a black star, that's a pre-approval and almost garaunteed, giving everyhing else is clean.
