You imply the first CSR was not American. Was the first call to the Platinum phone number, or Delta Gold?
Just curious, So any Amex card members can call Platinum CS line? Even tho they dont have Platinum card to inquiry/issue about other cards they have?
I don't believe anyone can get Platinum service. Note that fltireguy mentions a Platinum in his signature, which was the basis of my question.
When I call the Schwab Platinum line, the greeting says the line is to service Schwab Platinum cards. I then have to enter my card number. In doing so, I identify myself as a Platinum customer. The Platinum team can also handle any issues with my other cards (all personal).
If you called that number but entered your ED number, I assume they would just direct the call to a lower-tier group.
If I entered my ED number...I'm not sure. Insight, Pooka? Would I go to a lower-tier group for light-spend ED cards? Or would the system flag me as someone with a Schwab Platinum and move me to a higher tier?
And if I were to get, say, a Blue for Business, could I call the Schwab Platinum line for any issues with that card? Or do personal card CSRs not handle business products?
You must have a Platinum product to speak with Tier 3, which is Platinum servicing. If you call that number, and enter a Tier 1 card number, you will be re-routed to general servicing.
Platinum servicing, assuming you have one, can indeed assist with OPEN cards to a limited extent. If they do not feel confident in their answer or it's a question exclusive to OPEN benefits that they wouldn't know as a consumer servicing group, they may transfer you. Corporate Cards have it's own system and that would require a transfer for anything more than balance inquiries or payments.
When i closed my Delta Gold, i requested the CL to be moved to my BCE, but they did not move the entire CL. Kuddos to you!!
Why call in when the chat exists?

I called Amex last night to close my Delta Gold since the AF was due. I wanted to move the CL to my BCP. The first Rep that I spoke to was trying to talk me out of the closure, as it would "negatively affect my credit rating". Really? I called him out on it, and ask d him to explain. He said that because the card would have a 0 CL it would affect my score. I mentioned to him that a) He apparently has no clue how credit scoring works, and b) that it wouldn't even have a effect on my utilization, since the CL was being moved, and also, having $215k in available credit and even losing $1k (I had already moved most of the CL a while back) wouldn't matter. He kept insisting, so I hung up. Next CSR apparently seemed to be Us based, and had no issue doing what I wanted, and didn't try to give me any BS song and dance like the first one. Interesting
So even though you only had $1K limit letf on the card, they let you move the whole thing to another card when you closed it?
Yes they did
So I just called Amex and asked to close my BCE ($1,000) and move the limit to my ED ($500). The CSR tried (and even read off her screen to me) to move the entire limit over, and the computer was forcing her to leave $500 on the BCE card.
Not sure how you got around this restriction. I was hoping internal Amex policy had somehow changed and I could end up with a $1,500 limit on my ED card. No go for me.
I did go through with it and close my BCE card though, and had them move $500 to my ED. I don't need two low-limit Amex revolvers.
Why did you get rid of it? Although the limit on the BCE was low, those cards will grow? AND no AF.

The low SL's cards can stay there for a long time. They hardly ever get a 61 day or 181 day CLI (or 91 day if denied on the 61 day). I just didn't want to deal with spending the next three years growing two tiny Amex cards, when I didn't really need both of them.
Tier 2 is not used anymore. Tier 2 was just Tier 1 with a dedicated servicing group for people flagged as "High Value, Influential, etc.". Tier 3 is Platinum, Tier 4 is Centurion.
