Into the sock drawer for Capital One

So I am an adopted HSBC/Orchard bank Cap 1 customer.........always managed to get small CLI's before Cap1 bought them out.  Have had one CLI since the acquisition on 5 cards and this occurred only after contacting the EO  .  Was told I had to wait 6 mos before I would be eligible for another CLI.  The 6 mos finally passed and I applied for CLI on 3 low limit cards, (1K, 1K, and 700) ....... now due to my credit building venture over the past year I now have "Too many inquiries".........so I guess Cap 1 and I are finished for now........I had been using these cards regularly pushing through 800 - 1000 on each card a month in hopes of getting some nice CL since these are my oldest cards.  I am not going to get pissed off and close them.....just won't use them and make my charges through someone more appreciative.   Just ranting I guess....thanks for listening

It's actually a good strategy. I have done it for 6 years, but kept my Platinum because it had no AF. This year, low and behold, they turned it into a QuickSilver and almost doubled the CL. Still not my highest card, but I am back to using it for categories for which I don't have special rewards.

Re: Into the sock drawer for Capital One

It is frustrating with Capital One; they upgraded all my cards to QS or QS1 and said after 6 mos I would have access to higher credit limits so I felt like they were going to do an internal review of how I managed the cards and I guess they did but do deny a CLI on inquiries when I have a 7% utilization on over 150K in credit is rediculous.  I don't really need the credit,...... it is the principle of things.  A long time loyal customer is just not their cup of tea I guess.  Thought once about contacting the EO and I may do so yet, but right now I have no intention of giving Cap 1 any more spend.  I have cancelled a couple of auto pay items I have on the cards........I know they don't care but it makes ME feel betterSmiley LOL

I'm in the same boat. I have 2 from the HSBC buyout that are 8 years old and stuck at $1500. EO won't even upgrade them to Quicksilver so they remain QS1's. At most I run my netflix thru one and Hulu thru the other just for monthly activity but vowed to never give them more than $10 per billing cycle. I'll never close them tho. They just won't see the light of day.
