I never thought I would be irritated with Discover because they were one of the first places that gave me credit and I really enjoy using their card. Well, I called them several weeks ago and asked about when I would be eligible for a cli. I was told by a csr to call back after March 8th and ask. (6th month mark). She said they can give an increase then with just a sp for up to a certain amount. So I called today and the csr said she could not guarentee it would be a sp so I said nevermind. She then offered to let me speak with a credit analyst and I said ok. So this girl asked me all kinds of questions...income, rent, what I want an increase for...etc. I asked for to be raised from 1.5 to 3k. Then she said they could not do it at this time because of inquiries and because I have had new accounts since this one was opened.
I was fine with that and then she asked why all the inquiries and I told her I was building my credit and that I have opened most of my accounts around the same time blah, blah, blah. She then said that I must be using my other new cards because I was not using them at all. I said, No....I use your card every month and in fact just paid in full 400.00 that was still leftover from Christmas. I use that card all the time and pif two times a month so I don't know what her problem was. She then told me that sometimes they will automatically increase limits and hurried to get me off the phone. It makes me just want to sd the card because of her attitude. If you can't do the increase that's fine but she does not need to accuse me of not using the card when we can both see that I absolutely do use it. Maybe she just saw the 0 balance and assumed.

Welcome to the club! I went thru the same with discover
So did you ever get an increase or just nothing at all? I can't believe she called me out on having a 0 balance. I thought that was a good thing. I have used the heck out of that card since I got it. I have used it less in the last few months because I had Christmas tied up on it but I have still put 150.00-200.00 on it each month and paid if off. They must be a card company that wants you to run balances and get close to your cl??

Nope still at my starting limit of 1700. Last 3 months before hitting the 6th months mark i used the hell out of my card. Racked up 400 in cash back using shopdiscover. I maxed the card twice in a month and pif before the due date and nothing. Ive called 3 times and even asked for a cli with a HP but the CSR told me my account wasnt old enough to request a HP cli. Im at 8 months now and still no cli
They have nice csr's but they all say something different. She offfered to do a hp for me but I don't see how that would have helped at all. I don't want anymore HP's but she obviously looked at something and she was just a snot to begin with so it would have been for nothing. It's a shame too because I really like Discover but it will be hard to pull that card out of my wallet now.
I remember you closed your shell gas card right? I called them today since my 6th statement just cut and asked for an increase. The csr assured me it would be a soft pull and she took my information and said she will send it to the "credit limit increase" department and they would make a decision within 2-4 hours. That makes me a little nervous because who knows if they will hp me or not. I only asked for an increase from 600 to 1500. Do you think that was too much to ask for? They seem stingy with this Shell card.

I had the shell and closed itI would of just asked for an even thousand...do they counter?
I knew it was somebody that I talk to on here often....lol The csr said she was forwarding it to the credit limit increase department if that even exists....lol I was going to just ask for 1k but I thought I should go alittle higher since cli's with them are few and far between. She told me to call back in 2-4 hours if I wanted to but that they would send a letter to me either way. I'm not holding my breath.....I think I will end up apping for the Shell Mastercard someday and will probably get a better starting limit that way. I've had both my gas cards for 6 months and they have not increased at all and I use them both every month.
I would try again. I actually was denied for an increase online and about two weeks or so later they rang me and were offering to look into the increase manually. She didn't really ask any questions except how much income was and how long I have been at the job. She said she would do a soft inquiry on Transunion and come back to talk to me. She said she saw a lot of new accounts and asked if I realised how many inquiries I had and I told her yes and why the new accounts; she said she really liked that all of the balances were at 0. She said she saw I wasn't using the card and hoped that her increasing it by 2000 to bring it to 3000 (still low but it oh well) would make me use it more.
So I would try to get a different representative who may be more open to giving an increase.
