Is changing card types within the same lender, a thing?

I currently have a chase VISA however I wanted to upgrade the card to a CSP or perhaps an Amazon Chase card... is this something that's usually done or would I have to app for a completely different card? I'd like to have the card 'upgraded' or changed and keep the card history etc...

You say you have a Chase Visa, which type exactly? Chase doesn't allow some changes from one card group to another, for example, Southwest to CSP. They do allow change from Freedom to CSP for example. I am also positive that Chase doesn't allow a PC to Amazon.

I believe every card Chase offers currently is a Visa, so you will need to tell us exactly which product you have.

As mentioned, co-branded cards can't be Product Changed with Chase. Only their core cards can be changed around (Slate, Freedom, Freedom Unlimited, Sapphire, Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve).

+1

Also i only this very week did a product change to return back to the 5% Freedom Card from CSP after vice versa a year ago and the history stays the same.

Core product as mentioned. The Rep even said my card number remains the same.

Hope some of that is of use for you in your decision.

Yep--they even let me keep the remaining 2 months of my 0% APR promo when I went Slate-> Freedom!
