I am wanting to apply for the Citi Double Cash card but I have never applied for a CC before, other than a secured card to build credit. I have read a lot on this forum about initial CL's being low, especially for this card. I was simply wondering if, during the approval process, do CC issuers have access to review your checking account and if so, does your balance affect your initial CL? What are the major factors which affect CL?

No they cannot see your checking account, but thats why sometimes the assets question is there to also help determine line on how much is in accounts/.

While some lenders have access to some of your overall banking relationship, the balance on your CITI checking account will not influence the SL decision. Your overall profile, creditworthiness and income will play part in the approval and CL-assignment decision.

The money in your deposit accounts is generally irrelevant. What's in your reports is what they look at. If a creditor also holds other accounts they can certainly look at those accounts and consider your history with them. However, that's unlikely to have a major impact as the decisions are based on one's credit and income. Other considerations may play a small role in some cases but will not overrule those.

Your entire credit profile determines the initial limit and APR that you qualify for and any CLI's that you may qualify for. You cannot rely on individual factors.

Yes, I think it does matter. I think it can contribute positively to your CC app.
It depends on the bank, but Citi I would count in one of those "relationship" banks where they cross-market their customer base to try to expand how much business they do with those customers. US Bank definitely. I have a mortgage with them, and they've called to give me two cards. I did not apply except over the phone with the cold-caller getting me signed up. Just got another "relationship" call from them yesterday, with more CC offers.
If you have the Citi account, and a Citi branch nearby, go to the Citi branch to ask about applying for a credit card. That branch person will have access to your Citi accounts, and there are likely flags on that account with certain CC offers, which may include or be transferrable to getting the Double Cash.
Good luck!
I don't think so. I have 3 checking account and 2 savings accounts, all with different banks. They don't know how much I have lol
