Not so moot, I keep getting them! I was hoping they would stop when they were purchased by Chase, but no such luck!
I have two
one Orchard/Houshold card opened in 2005 and one HSBC/American Dream card opened 2008
BUT they are technically different "products" because the 1st is a low limit rebuilder card and the other is a plain ol high interest rate subprime card.
I'm movin up in the world!

I keep getting them, too.
(Back to the originally scheduled thread.)
I started out with 1 now I have 3 thanks to the take over ( So to speak)
HSBC Cash Platinum
GM Flexible Rewards Card
HSBC Direct Merchants Bank.
3 HSBC Cards, 3 different websites
Who knows how they decide on this. I have had 4 HSBC cards at one time: 1 M/C, 1 Orchard, 1 Discover Rewards, 1 Discover Platinum. Perhaps I was able to have all 4 because the M/C and the Disc. are Direct Merchants. I have no idea. Currently I have just the Disc. Rewards and the M/C. I did their preapproval app. online just to see what I would qualify for.. and they did preapprove me for a card.... imagine that... a 300.00 limit secure card. Rediculous considering my limits on the other cards.
I don't know that there is any rhyme or reason to this question. If you search it has been posted many times. I have had three HSBC cards at one time (Orchard, DMB Discover, and HSBC). All of mine were from invitation except the HSBC which I was told I qualified for when I accepted a HFC loan. I just received an email from HFC saying I am not qualified for ANOTHER hsbc CC. I am going to call to see if the offer is for the same HSBC platinum I currently have.
I have been told you have must receive an invitation in order to get more than 2 HSBC products. However, some here have received the invite, took the hard hit and received a decline due to having too many HSBC products.
