This! Where I live, Costco premium is about 60 cents less than any other gas station by me so the 4% is a win-win on top of win!

Let's do the math if you live in state were paying cash gas is cheaper than paying with card than you good paying cash .
I live in northern new Jersey here the gas is 5 to 9 cent more expensive if you pay with cc so there is no credit card but discover on the win side .
But if your gast station have the same price on cc and cash any credit card will be better
How far north? If you live near a quickchek that has gas, it codes as fuel on my amex BCP, so i get 3%
Not really IMHO .... I have my Thank you Premier which happens to also give me 3X times points on travel which includes gas but a lot of the CB cards offer 2% or 3% on gas already like BoA and Amex BCE among others. Even if you don't I would just put it in a 1% or 2% CB ( 1.5% included in there) since gas probably isn't that high of an expense if all you're doing is driving to work and back with any modern car I assume to be worth getting a gas card which doesn't really offer any perks anyways.
Where is Sallie Mae? ![]()
I just use loyalty cards and my QS1 (or Discover if gas is in that quarter).
If I'm at an Exxon/Mobil I'll get my Plenti points or redeem them - gotten free gas off of Plenti a couple times.
If I'm at a Shell station I'll use my FRN loyalty card for the 3 cents off, or I'll cash in Kroger points for 10 cents off (the Kroger stores near me don't have gas stations).
Works for me where I am.
The Sheetz card (store or Visa) gives a solid 5c off per gallon + the 3c off you get with their loyalty card (free) and 5% back on non-gas purchases at Sheetz (the food and coffee is suprisingly good IMHO) which makes it a pretty decent gas card if you ask me. A 5% back card for gas would yield slighly better returns, but the 8c off per gallon actually ends up coming close enough for me.

Believe it's no longer available for new applicants.
I agree with the Costco gas. It's already 10%+ cheaper at the pump than average local pricing, plus 4% citi card. We drive a short distance out of the way to get it.
Rarely use my Sallie Mae for gas unless I'm on the unknown beaten path. Then I trigger fraud alerts from Sallie Mae. lol
I use a Chevron card because I buy Chevron gas exclusively, and around here, the credit price of gas at Chevron stations is on average ten cents higher per gallon than the cash OR Chevron card price...plus I get three cents per gallon credit on on statement.
