I don't have a Discover but my co-worker/friend got a call when we were at dinner the other evening because her bill hadn't been paid in 2+ months. She said that she has had auto pay for years and every 18ish months or so, she gets a similar call. Has anyone else had difficulty with Discover and auto pay malfunctioning?

Not with Discover per se, but have experienced this in the past with other financial institutions to realize mistakes, double payments, skips, and even requesting an erroneous account number.
This does happen, though not very often. For this reason, I will never use auto pay. Not to mention that if you close a card, auto payments are still supposed to go through.
