all that just, because your location is in question. glad all is back to normal DI. you DIscover something new all of the time. i havent been fr'ed yet. dont know what i plan to do when it finally happens. i love Centurion Bank cards a great deal, but i think i would be willing to let it go if the circumstances warranted it. Besides, Discover Bank is my favorite. i think the way that they are appeals to me the most.

I can comment, if it'll help you out! ![]()
Congrats Di you passed the rubber glove test. Bet that didn't hurt a bit.

My guess is that with Amex, it's more like the silver tube rather than the rubber glove. ![]()
This past weekend I brought a carload of stuff to Goodwill to donate. Since I was there, I started to browse through the store and found some stuff that would be useful (e.g. soccer cleats that my kids are going to outgrow in 3 months any). I was about to pay with my Amex, but then thought about this thread. I got worried that maybe a Goodwill charge might trigger an FR.
I've used my Amex at places like Walmart and Tuesday Morning and some dollar stores and other discount places in the past without any problems. I guess I just got a little paranoid about the whole FR thing. In the end, I paid with cash, but had to put back about a third of the stuff that I had picked out.

I would not use an Amex at any thrift store, unless I didn't care at all about the possibility of triggering unwanted attn/ F/R, this, despite that would imagine there are many folks who have done so without incident.

This sort of thing makes me wonder if eventually merchants are going to band together and hit Amex with a class action lawsuit. Think about it:
"You charge us fees -- higher than MC/Visa -- to accept your card at our establishment. Then, you turn around and penalize a portion of our customers for accepting your card at our establishment. We are being singled out by you in a manner that besmirches our respective businesses."
Talk about biting the hand that feeds you. <shaking head>

I've used mine everywhere it is accepted I think. Used it at: McDonalds, Taco Bell, various restaurants, Wal-Mart, Target, places at any given mall, various online stores (family friendly), hotels, car rentals, airline tix, online advertising on places like FB, association purchases and dues, online classes, utilities, gasoline, car repairs, online donations, sporting events, and many, many more. However, the one thing that stopped me and triggered an FR was legal fees.

This has gotten blown out of proportion, I think.
AmEx definitely has customers who probably shop mostly at Bergdorf, stay at Four Seasons properties, etc. and maybe if one of those customers suddenly picked up a penchant for shopping at Goodwill, they'd have some questions. But clearly, they want to capture various segments of the market-- thus their cards being accepted at Goodwill, Taco Bell, Walmart, etc. and the offering of credit products with balance transfer offers, etc. They're okay with various cardmember demographics.
I don't think that swiping at a Salvation Army on an otherwise perfect account is going to trigger a financial review in and of itself.
