Haven't really been able to find out any more about this...I wonder if Rite Aid is following suit...
I guess this was bound to happen. Thanks for the heads up.
Bummer! ...I just started using the JCP card at CVS too.
That's lame
The ability to use the JCP card at CVS isn't much of a loss, IMHO. While it did allow you to create a spending and paying pattern, if you don't already have a GECRB-backed JCP card, you could instead opt for the GECRB-backed Walmart card.
JCP''s department store is quickly becoming less relevant.
I suspected that the ability to use JCP credit cards at CVS and Rite Aid would end at some point. Which means I have zero temptation to not use any of those other cards in my wallet that actually earn a rebate / reward / points.
Wonder what that's all about...

My guess is that it had to do with the whole Eckerd deal. When JCP decided to get rid of the Eckerd drug store chain in 2004, they sold a whole lot of stores and the mail-order & pharmacy benefits business to CVS. The rest of the company was acquired by Rite Aid. You might notice if you get a prescription at Rite Aid that the label mentions Eckerd Corp. (or at least it does here).
In any case, both deals closed in July of 2004. So perhaps CVS made some sort of 10 year deal to keep accepting JCP cards as part of the deal. As for Rite Aid, who knows?
