I had posted over in rebuilding your credit as that is what I am trying to do. I was given the wonderful suggestion to post here for recommendation & tips that may help me find the best match for my current situation based on my profile. So here it goes..
I was thinking of applying for a Jewlery Store CC as an additional tradeline.
My scores are listed below in my signature & here is what my profile currently looks like:
12 Baddies totaling $8,998 (includes some zombies).
4 baddies -medical $1,049
1 CO - auto 10k
1 tax lien - 5k
4 accounts positive including:
1 settled cc (2007)
1 auto loan 2004-2006
1 CA account - 2008 - it doesnt show balance info
and most importantly - my new revolving Wells Fargo cc Limit $500, Balance $301 (which I just paid the entire statement balance and will pay the balance to zero before the next reporting date).
I am opening an account with NFCU and will apply for their secured card too. I am curious to know if, in addition to working on all these baddies, if I should wait longer or if I can get approved now with a Jeweler to get another tradeline reporting sooner than later. And with my ugly profile, can I even get approved?
I think right now it's between Jared, Kay or Crown Jewelers.
I know its ugly but most of the baddies are zombies, including one for $1,100 for a bank card that I don't ever remember opening and its been assigned to CA's twice. The OC reports it as opened in 1999. So, it's ugly but at closer look not as ugly.
Thanks!
i applied for kay either in december or january. i was buying a promise ring and the lady that works there said that if i was actually applying to buy something i had better chances of being approved by applying at the store so i did and got approved for 5.2k but i was buying a 1.5k ring...maybe try that and if it works and they approve you, you can always return whatever you "bought" since you have 90 days to return.
if your close to a daniels jewelers then go in there and they will almost always approve you for credit but i think you have to buy something? and your limit is set buy how much the item costs? i say go in there get something and then return it? just a thought cause they will approve everybody.

IMO you should work on resolving your baddies 1st. I think it would be a wasted INQ right now.
Thanks. I sent out letters this week for the baddies.

I am somewhat close. I'll check them out. Do they report consistenly to CRA's? I would want to actually purchase & keep it. A Win/Win.
Do you know what kind of limit they give up?

Do you know what your score was to get the 5.2k? When I approach them should I be honest and tell them I want to apply then see what they give to purchase something or pick something & tell them I am interested in financing it?
I would want to keep what I purchase ..that's why I was figuring on a jewelery store..
Thanks for the tip. I'll definitely do it in store.

no idea because i never really thought about my score. i wasnt looking to apply and when she offered i kinda didnt wanna apply cuz i thought there was no way i would be accept it and i told her that. thats when she told me that i if apply at the store while actually trying to buy something i had better chances. i was very surprised because at that time my highest limit was 2k on my bofa student plat plus.
