Joined NFCU today!!!

A BIG thanks to all of you!! I wasn't aware of NFCU prior to these boards & today I was finally able to join via my Uncle...had my mom join & then I hopped on the bandwagon!!! I started my credit journey on 4/30/13 with an Equifax Fico of 524 (ouch, I know). I couldn't get credit ANYWHERE & was forced to get a secured credit card for $300 which is my only credit card besides 2 store cards Express & Loft for $300 as well. I scoured this site for hours & sent letters, disputes, & goodwills. Today all of my Ficos range from 620-639 so of course as soon as I was an official member I couldn't wait to get home to apply for a credit card online. I was too scared to apply at the branch in case I got rejected. So I just applied a few minutes ago & didn't even take a minute to say because of your credit worthiness you are APPROVED for the Cash Rewards credit card with a balance of $10,000!!!! Woot! Woot! I screamed when I saw the message...I am so estatic that my hard work is paying off. 

Do you think I should now close the secured card...I recieved it in May?

Of course, I would if there is an annual fee. With secured did you have to deposit something? Do you get that money back? If so, just go ahead 10k on one card is great. Congrats!

Yes, I had to deposit $300 for the measly $300 balance...and yes, if I cancel I do get my money back.

Welcome to the NFCU family!  I joined when I joined the Navy at 19,  I let my checking account go inactive.  Just this previous week I reactivated my checking account and apped for the cashRewards card.  Also due to all the positive things I heard on this forum.

Congrats! I was floored when I was approved for $10K earlier this year. Having a high CL helped my utilization. It also has opened many doors for me such as AMEX (x2), Chase, Citi and Discover. The NFCU CSR's are super nice too!

Congrats And Welcome to the Family. I wouldn't be in a hurry to get rid of the secured card for awhile. 

Wait 6 months before trying for a CLI on your NFCU it will grow Grow GROW........meet you in the Garden ..
