Thats always been everyones thought as well. When I asked, I was expecting her to tell me that the card was already PCed to the new Commence, but she blew me away saying I could PC to the Arrival. I jumped on it!

And that's probably why. Barclays is auto-pcing from branded to :"stock" so may not care if you choose a different unbranded card. Its certainly possible that once the card becomes Commence, others can PC it to Arrival as well. Pizza1 skipped a step!

'Skipped a step"...LOL..
Thanks for sharing.
Does anyone know if the Ring is still available, and if so has anyone tried to PC their SM to that? I already have an arrival so need to find another option.

There are links to the ring that look like they still work (didn't try to apply!), e.g. http://www.findmybarclaycard.com/barclaycard-affiliates/?campaignId=2039&cellNumber=9&referrerid=CKA...
so it is probably at least as much a possibility as the Arrival.

ring is still available. Just can't get to it through barclay's site can goog barclay's ring application and find a link for it. Doubt they would allow a PC to the ring if they did that would be nice.. Doesn't hurt to ask

They in the past would not PC to/from Sallie but I'm guessing with the upcoming demise of the legacy Sallie they have loosened up and are letting people choose other options.

Are you sure about that? I'm asking because the new card is named Commence by Sallie Mae. It even has that on the card image, along with the classic Sallie Mae rainbow style logo.
I also have to mention that when I read the original post, I was excited for a moment. I was like.......wow, that's great! Then I realized this was the Arrival. I'm a Barclays fan, but I happen to think the No fee Arrival is pretty meh, without the sign-up bonus it used to offer when it was available. As many folks have pointed out in the past, the Arrival is basically a restricted (restricted travel redemptions) cash back card with special 2% bonus categories. On the plus side of things, it will be a much nicer looking card than the Commence (and probably the original Sallie Mae card as well), it has No FTF, and I believe it can be used as a chip and pin card (although I believe that I've read that it defaults to chip and signature), so don't quote me on that. I guess if someone travels quite a bit and doesn't have any other travel cards, and also doesn't have any 2% everywhere cards, this might be a compelling product change. Sorry to be somewhat of a "Debbie Downer" here, but that's my take on things. I wanted to be more excited about this new possible PC option, but I just can't do it......lol.

Eh, my Sallie was going to be buried alive, only to expire when Barclays decided to kill it off.
Tried calling the number on the back of the card, standard call center, no love there. Might try later with the same route Pizza used; niche use case but it'd extend it by a year and if I can get into a mainline Barclays card maybe it can be converted to something more useful later.

Oh, I missed the co-branding of the Commence card. Then Pizza's success is more significant, even if, like you, I don't get excited by the Arrival.
