Here is the letter. What do you all think?
Dear Mr. Howard:
As a corporate communications professional, I understand the importance of having a favorable image. I have been very pleased with the professionalism of the agents at FirstPoint Collection Resources. Your agents treat consumers with the highest respect and concern for each individual situation.
I am writing in hopes that you will review an item that is adversely affecting my credit score, and in turn is hindering me from securing a corporate card at my job.
My payment history for the last eight years has been perfect. I haven’t missed a single payment with any creditors, except one. That creditor was Virginia Natural Gas in 2009. When I was making the transition from renting an apartment to owning a home, my final bill with Virginia Natural Gas was displaced. Because Virginia Natural Gas prorates bills and bills for services in advance, I honestly thought that I had paid for the services rendered.
It wasn’t until the collection reached my credit report a few months later that I realized I hadn’t paid. I understand that I am to blame for not following up to see if Virginia Natural Gas had a final bill or anything, and I take responsibility for that.
However, as you will see in my account, I quickly paid the item as soon as I realized what it was.
I am asking for a goodwill adjustment to my credit reports with all three agencies. I am a very responsible person and have lived with this oversight for more than four years now. It is discomforting to be declined for a corporate card with your employer due to a collection on your credit file.
I appreciate any attention you can give this issue.
