I recently app'd for a kays card and was approved for $800. Then I started shopping around and realized jared had more selection and cheaper prices. I have asked the credit dept if they can simply convert the account over to jared which they can't. They recommended that I voluntarily close the kays account and reapp for a jared account. My only concern is wont' closing the kays account with so little history haunt my AAoA for what 7 years? Any ideas or suggestions would be appriciated...

Closing this card or any card has no effect on AAoA or credit length history. Read more about this here: Closing Credit Cards.

So the only thing closing a card would affect is util?
Wonderful... Just read this, "Also open and closed accounts age the same. Closing a CC has no affect on average age of accounts or credit history length."

Reason is if I app for a jared card and leave kays open I will only have $400CL on each...

Yep. Kays and Jared are both in the Sterling Jewlery family and if you open an account with one of their company's and then another, you limit is split between the two.
If you want Jared, then close the Kay account. As you've heard, it won't affect our AAoA. But opening the Jared card might. I've had the Kay account (and Weisfeld), the DW has the Jared account. Far more pleased with the selection, quality, and prices at Jared. And they gift wrap everything for you right there the store in fancy little boxes. It's not Tiffany blue but still a nice touch.
