Kroger Rewards MC

Anyone have this card? Likes, dislikes?

I got an offer for it the other day that I will likely take, and am curious if it is a worthwhile card in the long term.

Just for data, the offer is the same as what is listed on the site, with the exception that they are offering $150 statement credit after $200 spend in the mail offer. Online is only $100 after $200.

Re: Kroger Rewards MC

Got the same offer and am considering it in December just before the offer expires (kinda hard pull laden right now). Came here to look for opinions and experiences but only see posts from 2013-15 with very few recent ones. I wonder if that means the card is a dud. But even if it is, that SUB sounds sweet!!!!

Re: Kroger Rewards MC

If you are SUB chasing then $150 CB on $200 purchase is a pretty good offer. Though, I think the fine print says the CB is a statement credit, so to cash that out, you'd need to send a written request or wait a few cycles.

As for the actual card, it's nothing to write home about. 1000 pts/$5 means it's 0.5% CB per point. So the rewards scheme is 0.5% CB on purchases everywhere, 1% CB on Kroger purchases not including gas, 1.5% CB on Kroger store brand products. Given the large numbers of 1.5-2% CB cards out there, this card is basically good for only the SUB.

Re: Kroger Rewards MC

I'm not very concerned about a HP. It may drop my ficos to 760ish for a few months, but they come back up quickly enough. I guess for someone trying to get tons of cards it would make sense to watch it, but for someone like me that may get 1-2 cards every few years, what's the big deal?

I was also looking at the 25 cents per gallon gas bonus for the first year. I generally shop at, and fill up at kroger anyway, so I could use that often.

Granted, as SBR249 pointed out above (thanks for that), the ongoing rewards are not very good. This is what has me on the fence.

Re: Kroger Rewards MC

I'll agree that it's nothing to write home about. I have the Fred Meyer version, and it was a great card back when my mom was an authorised user. She shopped there a lot, and combined with my shopping the rewards were nice! But after her passing it doesn't do so well, and now I have other shopping cards so it's spread real thin. lol

I do get 50 cents to a Dollar off on gas quite a bit though, so it's worth keeping around to use now and then. Especially with no AF.

I probably would not apply for it today as a new card though, based on my other cards spending requirements. As this one often falls into the cracks. If I was to burn a HP for a US Bank CC, it would probably be the Cash+ for the 5% categories.

However, if you do a lot of shopping mainly at Kroger(products), the 3X points adds up.

Re: Kroger Rewards MC

Maybe the gas offers are worthwhile, but even 3x points is still only 1.5% cashback at the redemption rate of 1000pts/$5. Any decent non-cat CB card can easily match or beat that without the category restriction.
