$3k increase from BOA today for my Worldpoints Visa. I was denied cold at the front door, so I reconned at the backdoor.
Now I'm going to write them even nicer e-mails about how wonderful their customer services is, and I'm going to smile at their CSRs everytime I go by a bank. Not that they'll know what I'm smiling at, and they'll probably think I'm a nut, but I won't care, becaue I'll have increased my CL by 3 grand! Yay!
Wow! Congrats!!
Do you mind a few questions??!! What was you CL before the CLI, how long have you had your card and what are your scores?? Also, which backdoor number did you call??
DH got BoA (I'm AU) in April w/ $5600 and they advised when we tried the LUV button last month needed to develop a history before CLI. Just wondering if we can expect an automatic at some point or when we should ask again. Would like to get it on par w/my Amex line of $10,600.
Amex being Amex, we want to hedge out bets against any CLD!
Not at all! My CL before the increase was $2000. Now it's $5000. I'll also note that I started out with a fully secured card several years back. It unsecured (with my deposit mailed back) after 9 months, and then just hung around at the same CL for years. For a long time, I was just feeling defeated about my credit situation (in spite of having substantial income again, after a job loss and massive medical bills for a very ill child at birth), and made no attempts to fix any baddies. After I found this forum, and shook myself out of my inaction, BOA is finally rewarding me.
My credit scores are: TU: 641, Ex: 627, EQ: 630
I'll come back & edit this post to give you the Backdoor # that I used. I left it in my car.
I didn't get any auto CLIs from BOA. Although, I don't blame them with my previous scores, and no attempts to fix it. My account with BOA has always been in good standing, no lates/overlimits, and always PIF'd, but my overall credit picture was a bit on the dismal side before.
BUT, from what I hear, they are usually very generous, and unless the current credit climate worsens (I don't even want to imagine that!) I'm willing to bet that BOA will auto CLI you at your 1 year bday with the card. If they don't, I'll bet they give you a CLI if you call. Heaven knows they softed me enough times over the years... They would have undoubtedly given me some auto CLIs had I gotten with the program much sooner.
ETA: The BoA backdoor #: is (888) 831-4181

Boy, I can relate....not to having an ill child, praise God, but certainly that defeated feeling regarding mycredit. This forum has indeed been a blessing......I've learned so much, and am so grateful for all the people (like yourself!) willing to share to help others!
Thanks so much for the backdoor #. I think we'll see if any auto CLI occurs after Oct stm, which will be 6 months. If not, we'll call. If they still say no, we'll just be patient. As I said, we're just concerned about Amex CLD.....seems to be happening to a whole lot of people right now. We're trying to stay under the radar, but we've got to get a car asap, so we'll have a new loan which Amex won't like at all. That's why were were hoping to increase other lines in case we lose some of the Amex CL.
Even though it's getting addicting, I'm always so much more optimistic, and so filled with renewed energy after I come here. I most certainly agree that these forums are a blessing. I didn't even know where to begin, and it seemed like my credit problems would be never-ending. After reading, and reading, and reading, I realized that a) my credit problems weren't so big or deep, and b) there was plenty of stuff that I could actually do to fix things, and that time would take care of the rest.
I read almost every thread (or so it seems, LOL!), and while there is absolutely no joy in other people struggling through their own issues, it sort of shores me up to know that we need to succeed at this for ourselves and our families, but that there's also people out there who need some shred of hope that all is not hopeless. It might be a little silly, but participating makes me feel like we're all fighting through this and getting it right together, and I don't feel so alone and like the worst person in the world for having fallen on hard times once.
I don't have an Amex, but I've been following all of the discussion, and the general credit crisis (who can ignore it?), so I understand your concern. I hope you can stay under their radar. If not, talk to BoA at the 6 month mark-- they have a history of being very generous, and they do work with your needs. I hope you get the auto CLI, but if not... the backdoor is always open!
Good luck with the car shopping. I hope you get a great rate! With the way the cars are moving (NOT!) there are some really awesome deals out there.

It is almost addicting, isn't it?! And I find myself checking my scores way more than I should, but I get excited now to see them rather than filled with dread!!
Like you, I have read so many posts...I think I'm at over 45,000, according to my profile info, and I have learned so much!
And like you, I feel better about myself and this struggle after being on this forum, as no one is judgemental...... just helpful! I felt so ashamed about my credit woes, even though DH's illness and subsequent income loss were unavoidable, but since finding this forum, I've realized I'm not alone, there are others who have had even worse problems. I also feel that with all I've learned here, I'll be much better prepared, or at least am working on getting that way, if we face such an event again in the future. It's amazing to me still that there are so many people out there willing and able to help, to share their experiences, good and bad, in an effort to help others.
I certainly appreciate your help with the BoA questions, and I will plan to talk to them if necessary to get that CL up a bit. The main priority now is a good reliable car at a price we can afford. I just hate the thought of a car payment again. We generally try to pay cash or have very short term loans when it comes to our vehicles, but don't have the ready funds to just buy outright at this time and our vehicle is close to death. But as you said, given the current situation, we're hoping to get a nice deal.
Thanks again for your help!
