If it was a collector trying to collect on a credit-related account, they legally don't have to send you a letter. They may just be checking up on you to see if you are ripe for legal action or not. If they see that your credit is improving, they may assume you have the ability to pay now and you may get harrassed for payment again. If not, they may wait or try legal action.
