So been working on my wife's credit recently.  Basically she has only a few accounts open and pretty much just uses her Wells Fargo credit card only.  Got a multi-year identify theft issue finally resolved (dang LVNV is a pain) so she basically has no negatives.  Went with an app spree for her to get her some more cards to thicken her file including some backdated AMEXs and others.  WIth starwood card, she got best terms from AMEX.  For the BCP card she apped for the same day, we just got the not so dreaded not best terms from AMEX letter today.

Basically said terms offered to you may be less favorable than the terms offered to consumers who have better credit histories.  But can't find the terms anywhere in the letter.  Anyone know where it is listed or does she just need to wait for card to arrived?  I forget.  Here is the kicker:

AMEX Experian FICO score 802 out of 850.  WTH, what do you need to get best terms?  BTW, her score is annoying me as it is actually better than mine.  Basically moved her from high 600s to low 700s to 802.  After all my hard work, her response was thats nice but can we stop talking about credit stuff (AARRGGHH).

Just to show you that there are almost always listed reasons even with a 802 FICO.

-Length of time accounts have been established

-Too few accounts currently paid as agreed

-Length of time revolving accoutns have been established

-Proportion of loan balances to loan amounts is too high

-Too many inquiries in last 12 months

Wow a lot of reasons for a 800+ FICO.  Sad part for me is once all this settles down and her AMEXs hit her CR, she is likely to move even higher (don't expect your wife to appreciate any of this).

I think you're asking where you can find the terms (interest % etc) for the card you just got the letter for?

That (the interest and terms etc) won't be on that letter.   They'll be in the paperwork sent with the actual card (included on the "Cardmember Agreement", Part 1 of 2 in that section).  At least that's how my AMEX Blue just came.  I was looking for the terms with the letter that came before the card, which included my FICO EX but no terms. Days later the card came and my question was answered.

Crash;

You of all people know lenders take more into account when approving an account than just a FICO score.  That's also true with the terms for any account, the look past the score at everything (EVERYTHING) else.  Esp AMEX.

And whenever your wife says  "can we stop talking about _____"...  Don't you know that's her way of letting you bring up what's on most mens minds 90% of the time when it comes to being alone in the room with said wife?  For future reference, when your wife says "Can we stop talking about credit stuff" (or whatever the subject).  Just look her in the eye with "that smile" and see if she gives "that smile" back......  Sheesh, kids these days need a manual.    If she DOESN'T give the same smile back, then you say  "sure, what would you like to talk about?" (with a smile of course and mean it).  And you will have a VERY happy marriage and you're relationship score with skyrocket.  Never expect your wife to respond with male logic in topic.  What she kind of said by wanting to talk about something else was "ok, I trust you and know you've got it covered".....   THEN when she's out with friends or family and the subject comes up, she brags how HER husband did all this work on her credit and not only got her all these cards (listing them) and how HE raised her score (with much more detail than you'd EVER guess she even listened to when you told her).

And I bet every woman on here would agree with what I just said. (even though they think it's a secret LOL).

She may have an 802, but because she has such a small credit file, and such a short payment history, as I am going to assume by the "Too few accounts currently paid as agrees" she only has a few positive payments weiging into her score, causing her score to be inflated.

Re: Letter from AMEX on APR but where is it and WTH?

Very informative posts in this nice thread. One of the best things I like about myFico forums is the similarity of situations that several of us are in. I almost went through the exact same process with almost similar numbers. I was approved for two AMEXs and did not get the best APRs eventhough in my mind I had excellent scores and decent file. AMEX sent me the letter with the actual FICO scores and I was displeased to see it was actually 30 points lower than my USAA FAKO (794). The score is still high and should have got me the best rate, but I think having 2 recent inquiries besides the 2 AMEX I had simultaneously applied for was the primary reason for not getting the best APR. I was also instantly approved for one of them and pending for the second one. I thought I had escaped with a single inquiry but a second one showed up a few days after the second approval because I tried to find out the reason for the APR (big mistake, should not have called!!).

I also worked hard on the wife's credit history and she has a score that almost matches mine except for the thinness and I am working to resolve that. 20k limit on 2 new Citi cards for her yesterday!

I provided that reasons just to show how meaningless the fico reasons can be sometimes as they provided lots of reasons for a 802 fico. Obviously none of the reasons her her score that much. For example, too many inquiries refers to 1 inquiry on her cr. She has a relatively long credit history, but few cards active as she uses her wells card almost exclusively. Her score really will be helped a bit by thickening her file which I have done and getting a mortgage on there. However, mortgage isn't even listed as reason and new mortgage after all the new account/inquiry effects drop off will likely drop her score given how high it is, until the mortgage is paid significantly paI'd off.

I'm a little annoyed the inquiry dates are 8 days apart. My fault for apping close to weekend. I've had luck with experian removing "dupe" inquiries via telephone. If your Amex inquiries are close together, you might try that as well.

Btw, has anyone here ever gotten best terms from bce/bcp card? Maybe they look for almost any excuse not to give it.

Re: Letter from AMEX on APR but where is it and WTH?

I believe the best APR for the BCPis 17.24% ( I could be wrong). My wife got that.

Amex BCE $11.1 / Citi Diamond Preferred WMC $12K / Citi Double Cash WMC $3.8K / Comenity Total Rewards Visa $2.5K / Citi Home Depot $5K / AU- Amex BCP $12K / Chase Freedom Visa $11014.00 / PenFed Platinum Rewards Visa Signature $6K / GE Lowes $10K
myFico Scores on 10/03/2014
Eq 798 / Exp 811 / Trans 814
CCT Fico 08 on 1/3/16 - Trans 786 / Exp 793 / Eq 797

Yep.  That looks like best stated rate.  Interesting.  So I guess it is possible to get it.  Any ideas what your wife's FICO looked like at the time?
