Lied to about card promotion. What are my options?

So I walked into a pnc bank to deposit a check into my account. While I was there they had mentioned a promotion they had going on and i was qualified for it. It was the pnc cash rewards card. 100$ cash back after the first 1,000$ purchase, and 0 percent interest for a year on purchases. I found that the woman at bank either was an idiot, or blatantly lied to me to get me to sign up, because the 0 percent interest only is for balance transfers.

I have already called the branch and they had forward my information to the branch manager, because I am upset about situation and I also want to make sure this woman does not lie to any other people.

I opened this card specifically to pay off an account that had higher interest.

What is my best option for trying to get this under control? I have other cards with 0 balance, so I’m considering doing a balance transfer to another card, and then transferring back to pnc to receive the 0 percent interest. Is this even possible or does pnc see that this is a balance transfer vs a standard purchase.

They had also said I could deposit a check from this account into my bank account and use that as a 0 percent interest transfer.

I may just be on the irritated side currently so I am not thinking clearly. And at this point I have lost hope on pnc making this right.

.

I am confused.  It sounds like you wanted the card for balance transfers and that's where 0% works?

Re: Lied to about card promotion. What are my options?

OP, it's possible that the representative was not well-informed which is definitely a far cry from any intentional "lie" or willful misrepresentation.

So, even if you were provided with such a great offer, as a consumer one needs to be well informed of the T&Cs before accepting such an offer. Either a pamphlet, virtual disclosures or other literature should've been provided (or at least requested) beforehand to make sure you knew what the terms of the offer were.

So, it's doubtful the individual was deliberately "lying" other than the fact they likely weren't aware of the introductory promotion details and, more or less, meeting a quota for submitted applications.

Hopefully the branch manager can rectify the situation.

I’m not really sure what you would consider the account. It’s snap on tools. Account had high interest. I paid off account with this card.

They aren’t considering this a balance transfer and I was okay with that, if they had given me the promotion that the woman had told me came with the card.

Re: Lied to about card promotion. What are my options?

While I agree I should of received some type of physical paperwork to confirm the deal that she had said I was going to receive, I reiterated to her several times on the 0 percent interest in purchases for a year. She had offered me this card or a different one, the other card had 15 months interest free on balance transfers, but I was mainly looking to use this card for 0 percent interest purchases.

And as I said, not sure if she was lying or an idiot, and I only say it this strongly because I had asked several questions at time of sign up and it seemed like she went out of her way to make it seem as if this card was going to fit my needs. Like she didn’t want to lose the sign up so she was going to tell me whatever I needed to hear to to push the card.

I apologize if I sound harsh. But this situation was caused by someone who either was not informed on the product she is pushing, or she knew better and was getting over on customer.

Was this a bank teller or an actual relationship banker who took your deposit in the branch? It almost sounds like there was some gap in communication, but hopefully they'll look into your situation.

Re: Lied to about card promotion. What are my options?

It started as one of the tellers, then she transferred me to one of the cubicles with I guess is what you are calling a relationship manager after I finished my deposit.

I hope to get this resolved, but this really put a poor taste in my mouth with pnc.

That's why it serves as a good reminder to always familiarize yourself or be fully aware of the T&Cs before submitting the application. If something is unclear request to view the disclosures just to be sure.

Often times, if one applies for another unintended product, then this is usually the outcome. Hopefully, if there was some gap of communication or mistake, then the banker would be coached.

Re: Lied to about card promotion. What are my options?

That’s why i reached out to branch. It seems like I’m s.o.l. But if I can prevent further people having this issue at least some positivity can come from this .

At this point I am considering playing around with balance transfers. Can I transfer this balance to a different card, and then transfer it back to the pnc card to receive the 0 percent ? Anyone have experience doing this.

Re: Lied to about card promotion. What are my options?

Yes, you can BT off of the PNC to another card at another bank, then a few days after that posts to the other bank, turn arround and BT back to PNC on the 0% offer.

Ideally the extra card has a no-fee BT capability otherwise you might pay a fee of 3% to 5% on each transaction depending on bank.

Can you list out what all your cards are, which bank they are with, credit limits and current balance?
Do you have any other BT offers on the other cards? If so, sometimes it makes sense to just pay thr 3% fee one time to get a 12- month BT.
