Likelihood of CLI with rarely used AMEX?

Back in March I opened a Blue Cash Everyday card but I was approved for a disappointing limit of 4000. I used the card for a few minor purchases for a couple months and haven't really touched it since. Does anybody with AMEX experience think I'd have a good chance at receiving a significant CLI at this point? Should I request a CLI now or start using the card more frequently for a few months before doing so?

AMEX doesn't perform a hard pull for CLI. I can't remember off the top of my head if its 90 days or 6 months you can request to triple your current CL.

Eitherway you are passed both of those timeframes. I would request up to a new limit of $12k and see what they give you.

All things being equal, you should be good for a 3X CLI from AMEX; however, if any of your other cards have high utilzation or your overall utilzation is high, then I would wait until that's ameliorated before trying for the CLI.

In addtion, if your income reported to AMEX is sufficient, then you should be good for the 3X CLI.

Best of luck.

May i ask why 4k was disappointing? No other card can i think of that could theoritically be at 36k by the end of one year if your income and profile support it.

Welcome, @Anonymous. Smiley Happy

AMEX doesn't get too bent out of shape over low usage. Go ahead and request 12k once the card is 61 days old. The worst case scenario is that you're declined and will have to wait another 91 days before trying again.

Ha I guess 4K isn't too bad. Maybe I've been spoiled with the limits I've received with other cards. I will go ahead and request a CLI and see what happens. 36k by the end of one year sounds nice. Smiley Happy

Once you start flirting with 35k, keep in mind the possibility of being asked for income verification (IV). Generally speaking, 34k won't require IV but 35k will. Once you're at or near 34k, AMEX will likely approve 5k every six months without IV.

There've been some recent exceptions, however, where people have leapfrogged over 35k. When you get to that point, check out recent information in "The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide" to help you decide how to proceed.
