go with a credit union. They tend to be more generous.
If you want a Credit Card with a High Limit i would suggest getting a American Express Charge Card like Gold or Platnium.
With a Charge Card there is no pre-set spending limit and the spending does not affect your credit score or your Utilization.
In the First Month they do however start you with a internal limit but it goes away after 2-3 months and you can spend as you wish.
How long have you had your current credit cards?
What is your reported AAoA?
Do you have any baddies?
Current CL's?
Keep in mind that lenders do not go just off your score. Lenders, especially Chase, want to see a decent length history of revolver payements.

I think the OP was trying to say they want a high CL so they can keep their overall UTI low, not just on the card

My aaoa is around 2 and a half years, no late payments or bad marks, current utilization is around 7% and current limits are $5000 and $5500. I'm looking for a fairly mainstream (if that makes any sense) card that I will be able to keep a while.
Well, credit unions are somewhat mainstream too. I don't have any, so I can't really testify to how good or bad they are, but if you are in it for a "quick and easy" high CL and low APR, credit unions kinda the way to go, or at least the "easy way out." Some people do prefer credit unions over banks, and they're great in many ways.
As far as mainstream banks go, the CL you will get is up in the air. It can be very high, or it can be very low. It just really depends on your income, and whatever is in your CR. There's no one card to apply for high CL. I've seen people get approved for 40k on the Citi Diamond Prefered (supposedly one of their worst cards), and I've also seen people get approved for only 2k on the Citi Prestige (supposedly their best card). So, it really depends.
EDIT: To add, credit unions are sometimes somewhat negotiable on the CL too. If they gave you too little, you can sometimes ask for more and they'll be willing to work with you, as long as you're not flagged as an high risk customer, which I don't think you are. Banks are generally very HP friendly if you want to recon / appeal the CL. You can end up with multiple inquiries just for 1 card.
