MF Credit Card Inventories

I see TPG does this so why can't we?

List all your cards including why you have them, keeping or cancelling etc.

Let's go!

Keeping:

- USAA Preferred Cash Rewards: hope to pc to Limitless when available in my state

- Amex PRG: I use the airline credit, make use of the categories and enjoy the spending power and lack of effect on utilization

- Amex ED - stores MRs, might pc to EDP

- Amex Business Green Rewards - enjoy the spending power for my new business with low annual fee

Cancelling:

Barclay Arrival + - will cancel unless retention or pc

Us bank secured- oldest card, will cancel if not unsecured next month

What's your inventory?

Re: MF Credit Card Inventories

Amex BCP - use it for groceries, and also for gas at 7-11 (company owned locations give 6% inside, codes as groceries)

Amex SPG - Cant beat the starpoints.. I put $500-1k thru per month

Amex Delta - chopping block - skypesos are worthless

Amex Platinum - I like t feel important. Plus the 5x points on flights, and airline fee reimbursement make this worthwhile in my case. I got in on the 100k leak in 11/16

Chase AARP - 3% dining and 0% for another 5 months

Chase Amazon - 5% on Amazon makes it worthwhile for me

Chase IHG- got it for the 80k offer

NFCU Cash Rewards - my highest CL, love Navy

NFCU Go Rewards - I wanted a second NFCU card

PenFed Platinum rewards - 4.6% or so on gas works for me...

PenFed PowerCash - 2% for all of my non category

PenFed Promise - going to close and reallocate CL to Platinum Rewards or Power Cash

BoA Cash Rewards - my daily driver. Started as a 99/500 in 5/16, its now at $5500

Blispay - for a rainy day

Merrick - I dont know why I still have it, I should close it. BUT no fee version. It's my lowest CL of any major card

CapOne QS1 - I should close this - $2k limit is a joke, and I havent seen a CLI in 8 months

CapOne Spark - 0% for another 6 months, decent CL... I'm going to keep this one

DCU Visa - got it when I bought my RV... No issues, APR isnt bad.. probably keep it around, plus it's a halfway decent limit ($7.5k)

Citizens Business Bank - just got this last week..

Cabelas - Im looking forward to seeing what happens with this when CapOne gets involved. New account this month as well.

Williams-Sonoma - It'll hit $10K this month. Going to keep it and see how high it will go

BMO Harris MC - Going to hang on to this and see how the CLI's go

Wish list - Discover. That's about it. Barclays doesnt have a single product that excites me, although I could use some JetBlue points..

Add in a few odd store cards, and total CL is $199500

NFCU $60.4k/PenFed $22.5k/Commerce $15K/53 $11K/Synovus $14K/BBT $11K/CapOne $12K/DCU $7.5K/BMO $7.5K/Chase $14.5k/Cabelas $10K/ and many many more!
Total CL $398600, plus car and RV loan.
Ooh. Ooh. Getting closer to that $500K mark!

Re: MF Credit Card Inventories

In Use (In-wallet in bold):

  • Amazon Store Card - The promotional financing is useful and has a lower threshold than Blispay ($149 vs $199).
  • BoA BBR #1 & #2 - Great BT cards and good for BankAmeriDeals
  • Barclay Rewards - I get decent spend offers on this, so it still comes in handy.  I like the rewards program functionality, but not the category rates.
  • Blispay - simple 2% cash back and I like the 6-month special financing; paying down promo balances now, but may eventually use for gen spend.
  • Citi DC - Keeping for now, but not happy that they want an HP to grow.   Decent rewards program, but not my favorite to use.
  • Discover It - I enjoy the categories and the rewards program
  • JCP - sentimental favorite, as they were my first success in rebuilding.   The extra rewards/coupons can be helpful, too.
  • Macy's AMEX and Store - the AMEX side sometimes has good Plenti points boosts.  The store side is great for Macy's purchases and getting extra discounts.
  • Marvel MC - it's a great dining and overall entertainment card, and I'm very happy with the rewards program and structure!
  • Sam's Club MC - currently my best for gas and may be a good travel card
  • Target MC - love the 5% off at Target!
  • US Bank Cash+ VS - I'm happy with the 5% categories
  • Wescom Credit Union Visa - I had to fight tooth and nail to get a decent CL.   The rewards structure is lackluster.  Since I have moved my banking to NFCU, I will eventually close all accounts with them, including the CC.

Sock Drawer

  • AMEX BCE - My oldest revolving line; also, for AMEX Offers
  • Cap One Sony Card - I keep hoping Cap One will close down the program so I can get a PC and then reallocate the CL into my QS1 and close.  Or maybe someone else can buy the portfolio and I could weigh my options with the new lender
  • Cap 1 QS WMC - 2nd oldest revolving line; I like rewards program (it may become my gen spend again, if I dump Citi DC)
  • Citi Costco Anywhere - a bit useless, since I no longer have Costco membership.   I'm basically waiting for Citi to kill this one off.
  • Chase Disney - lackluster rewards program; would like to get a Freedom, move the CL from this card to that, and close; of course, 5/24 is preventing that ATM.

Chopping Block

  • Barclay CashForward - I hate the $50 redemption threshhold; will reallocate to Rewards and close.
  • Care Credit - at this point, I think I'd be better served by using BTs or opening a new CC if I need to finance a major purchase.  Blispay also largely replaced any 6-month financing needs.  May keep open until I have more accounts with zero balances or may just let Sync close for inactivity.

Re: MF Credit Card Inventories

Amex Platinum Keep. 5 MRs for airfare and perks, perks, perks.

Amex PRG Chopping block.  Probably ran half a mil through the card; useless to my goals now.  Will ask for retention offer and/or cancel in a few months.

Amex SPG Keep. My daily driver and favorite card. Future uncertain with Marriott merger, though. Hoping to race with BOA to see who gives me my first $100k line.

Amex Blue Unknown. I've been tempted to close it.  Oldest individual card since older ones all fell off of my reports.  Nerfed it and kind of playing the waiting game between waiting for some kind of upgrade offer to ED/EDP and seeing what becomes of the SPG.  If SPG goes away, I'll move the limit to this and make it an EDP I guess.

BOA Travel Rewards Keep. Former MBNA card. Wonderful for balance transfers. Plan to combine other BOA cards into this next year to make a mega-limit card. May PC to BankAmericard until I am out of debt, though.

BOA BankAmericard Chopping block. Only got for BTs on advice of analyst. Will merge limit to Travel Rewards.

BOA Cash Rewards Chopping block. Only got for churning bonus and balance transfer safety net (also to see where I was standing with BOA's internal limit). Will merge to Travel Rewards next year.

Capital One Venture One  Chopping block. Not sure if CapOne will close before I do, but it's going away.

Chase Sapphire Preferred Keep. Ability to transfer URs to Marriott.

Chase Freedom Keep. 5% categories = 5 Marriott points per dollar.

Chase Slate Chopping block. Got for BT offer, low SL (almost immediately after $12k CSP), moved lines around. Will move limit either back to CSP, to Freedom, or some combo thereof.

Citi Diamond Preferred Keep.  Assumed I would either PC to a 2nd Double Cash card or hold onto it for BTs.  Plan now is to pay off BT then PC to Dividend for another 5% card.

Comenity BJ's Elite Perks Keep. I got it for the 5% back at BJs, but haven't been using it there since there is no grace period with a BT. Amazing 1% fee 0% APR balance transfer offers!

Discover it Keep. Hoped that it would grow huge and give me a good BT option; that has not been the case 14 months in. 5% categories only.

NASA FCU Platinum Advantage Rewards Keep. The card that helped me find this forum and got me started on my get out of crushing debt journey. I plan to keep it for now. The 7.9% for life BT is already paid off as it allowed me to maneuver things around and all of my debt is now 4.99% or lower.

Navy FCU Flagship Rewards Keep. Hoping to hit $80k relatively quickly, and this would be part of my long term strategy of just having a handful of extremely high limit cards. Using it for BJs for 4 points when Freedom and it cards don't have wholesale clubs as a category.

Pentagon FCU Defender Keep. No fees. Period. Using this for 4.99% BTs now, but plan to use this for foreign ATM use in the future and likely as the non-Amex backup when traveling abroad.

Pentagon FCU Power Cash Rewards Keep for now. I'm not using it, but if the whole Marriott/SPG thing doesn't work out to my liking, I may go cash back as my preferred reward type, in which case this would likely become my daily driver.

Synchrony Amazon Prime Keep. I shop too much at Amazon (several times a week) to even think of giving up 5% statement credits. Plus the 0% extended offers for large purchases are wonderful, especially since Synchrony makes it so easy for me to avoid ever paying interest on my new purchases.

Synchrony Lowe's Advantage Keep. Since I am a veteran I get 10% off at Lowe's no matter what card I use, but this has been great this summer for extended 0% APR offers of large home improvement purchases!

Capital One Kohl's Keep. We shop at Kohl's probably 10-12 times a year and since my wife also has a card, one of us almost always has a 30% off coupon.

TD Bank Target Keep. 5% off at the register and it's finally starting to grow the past year after having negative growth the first 14 years.

Not touching wife's cards that I am an AU on. Not my decisions to make.

Re: MF Credit Card Inventories

American Express Premier Rewards Gold Card - Probably getting rid of. Not satisfied with their random whims of approving or denying charges.
Lowe's - Was going to get rid of, but then my stepdad started using it.
Bank of America Better Balance Rewards MasterCard - Keeping until BoA pries it from my cold, dead hands, or nerfs it.
Chase AARP Visa Signature - Will be moving credit limit to other Chase cards next year.
Capital One Quicksilver World MasterCard - Keeping for now. It's a WMC, so it has a couple of unique benefits.
Blispay Visa - Keeping. Hoping for a CLI someday, even if it's a HP.
DCU Platinum Visa - Can't beat a 9% APR and no cash advance fees.
Chase Amazon.com Visa Signature - Keeping for now. Will be moving some of the AARP credit limit to it.

Amazon.com PLCC - Closing. Can't get a CLI, don't really need the special financing.
Discover IT - Not sure. It's been great for the initial BT, but hasn't been useful beyond that.
Chase Freedom Unlimited Visa - Keeping, will be moving most of the AARP limit to it, making it a $10k card.
Wells Fargo Cash Wise Visa - Closing, just don't know when.
Chevron/Texaco Visa - Closing. They "upgraded" my store card to the Visa, and cut my limit. Have never used it.
American Express Blue Cash EveryDay - Closing, most likely. Stuck at $1k limit.
American Express EveryDay - Closing, definitely. Don't need a $500 limit.

Re: MF Credit Card Inventories

Interesting thread! I always like to understand the thought process other people go through for building a portfolio.

Keep

Ritz Carlton - Room availability guarantee with platinum status. I spend enough to hit it without stretching.

Amex Business Platinum - Useful for a variety of reasons, but the perks are largely duplicated in personal Platinum. More likely to keep Business, but could change my mind. This business needs a minimum 50k CL, so I'd have a hard time getting a revolver to handle that in the short term.

Chase Ink Plus - Might eventually apply for the new version, but another corporate officer would have to do so.

Amex Business SPG - Second business, makes a lot of sense for spend and travel. Pairs well with RC.

Barclays Arrival+ - Chip+PIN works well in Canada and Europe. Might churn, but I'm lazy. AF is low enough that I don't care, but could be PC to regular Arrival.

Not Sure

Amex Business PRG - Need to look at category spend. May consider moving to Green. Absolutely need NPSL or giant CL for these two cards.

Amex Platinum - High AF. Currently use the perks, but most are duplicated with Ritz. If I get another high CL card, I can consider dropping a personal charge. Likely to keep if I'm feeling big future spending.

Amex BCE - Don't carry, no good in the sock drawer. Possible PC candidate, or could leave alone as no AF sock drawer card.

Discover - Low CL for me, but keeps growing. No sense in closing at this point, but I won't carry just for 5% category spend.

Sock Drawer

Citi Thank You Premier - Better cards in the category spend, will be product changed in advance of AF. Might close if they continue to irritate me.

Capital One Venture - Sock drawer after redemption and clearing negative balance from a return. Will PC in advance of AF.

Chase Freedom Unlimited - Chasing perks over points, so I don't use this anymore. Likely to stick around for future product change opportunities.

Wish List

US Bank Altitude Reserve - Mobile Wallet 3x would let me consider replacing personal Amex Platinum. Churn and downgrade if the CL isn't sufficient.

Amex Lowe's Business - In real estate, spend a lot here. 5% off would be nice. Haven't pulled the trigger with Home Depot far closer to my current projects.

Amex Centurion Business - Large purchase bonuses would be big for me. Some of the perks would let me drop other cards or consider different options. On the fence, but I can probably justify this.
