Hello!
I've been reading a bunch of past posts and responses and have decided that the Macy's card is definately a great way to start building someone's credit.
The Macy's card is for my young wife. This is her credit summary:
1) Up until 4 months ago she had NO credit history. We tried to check her credit from all 3 bureaus and they didn't even go through !
2) 4 months ago I added her as an "Authorized User" on my Bank of America Visa , that has a 3 year history , perfect payment history and $4000 Limit
3) I purchased a new car 4 months ago and added her as a cosigner and that is also now showing on her credit report.
A few days I checked her Equifax FICO score on Equifax.com and its now 702 !!
My question for you guys is this:
My best guess is that 702 is certainly a great score. But will an in-store computer application such as Macy's look at the score alone and base their decision on just the score? Or will they take into account the fact that her credit history is only 3 years old?
Thank you!
your wife should apply for the macy's account. while she does not have a solid credit file, she does have a good score. macy's will pull her experian credit report and since you added her on your BofA credit card - she will definitely have that account showing on her experian report. BofA pulls and reports to experian well.
On the car loan, some lenders dont report to experian since most car loans are based on pulls from either equifax or transunion. so that account may or maynot be showing on her experian report.
further, macys is also sensitive to too many inquiries in this credit environment - since she has a new credit file - i doubt she has many inquiries on her experian report - apply in-store at a macys with her current drivers license and she should get a perhaps a $800 credit line. let me know what happens ...
peace
Got it. I'll check her Experian to be safe and make sure that the auto loan is showing on Experian.
Also, she only has 1 inquiry (the auto loan).
I appreciate your help !
