OK, I came out of my credit bunker for a breath of fresh air today. I called Bloomingdales first and asked for a CLI. They asked me how much I would like to have, and I said, "Not to sound stingy, but how much would you be willing to give". The CSR then then said that she had to put down a specific amount, and I said $3,000 (was at $1,700 w/ the last CLI on 8/22 for $700). She then transferred me to another credit department and this other CSR offered to open a new account for special purchases. I asked if it was like Macys and he said yes. I declined saying that I know they add another TL to the CR and that I didn't want that. He then put me on hold for 10 minutes and then told me that he cannot approve a $1300 increase, but asked if $600 was OK. With mixed emotions (joy and happiness) I said yes. So the Bloomingdales is now at $2300. The CSR then concluded that in the future, I would have to request CLIs at the register. I would have to present more than $2300 worth of stuff and they'd grant a CLI.
On to Macys, I also called them last in August. My CL on 8/17 went from $800 to $1500. So, I called today. I asked for a CLI and the CSR quickly came back with a $300 offer and asked if that was OK. I didn't want to press my luck and accepted it (grateful too). So, $1500 to $1800.
I asked too about the special reporting that I have on my CRs. Been meaning to ask for a while but wanted to have a good excuse to call for a CLI too. I bought a bed in August. They opened a new TL called a special event purchase and gave me a $2500 CL. They had a special with 0% and took that. But when I looked on the CRs, they added a third account (#1 being revolving and #2 being special event). I asked about the third account and she said that it was for furniture and the like. I then asked about the special event account, that I thought that was for furniture, beds, etc. She said, "well, yes, it is. But because it was a special event for 0% financing we used that account." She continued that if there wasn't a special for the interest going on, then the third account (called a SEAT acct) would have been used, and the "special event" account never would have appeared on your CR. She said we can use that third (SEAT) account now if we wanted to buy another bed, furniture, drapes, etc. and that they would activate a CL at the time of purchase, but that there won't be any special 0% deal on it. She concluded by offering to submit a request to TU, EQ, and EX to delete it. I didn't want to rush things, and I waived off for now and thanked her for the CLI.
FYI for anyone.
What kind of high limits have you seen with Bloomingdales or Macys? Is it possible to get it over $5000 on the store card, for example?
ETA: if anyone were to ask, no, there was no hard pull on either. Not sure about soft though.
I said it before and I'll say it again, an increase is better than a decrease!!!
So, how does one get good increases at Macy's and Bloomingdales? By spending a lot?
Just wondering because I see how some people get the card with a $100 limit and the first increase bumps them to $200 but I have seen my DW throw down more than that on a pair of shoes there.

I got my Macy's Card around 11/2007 with $100CL. As of 1/2/2009 it is at $3400. I have not asked for CLI lately as I have not bought any thing from Macy's in the last couple of months. May be I should call and ask for CLI. As per Bloomingdales items slold there are out of my reach.
Their items are not just out of reach, they are over priced. Honestly Macy's sells the same items and at better prices. Besides out here, the Bloomingdales staff seems overly snobby.
My Macy's has an open date of 1990 (formerly an LSAyres card) and a TL of 2.5k. It has gone from 750 to 2.5k in the past two years. I have never requested a CLI for this card, tho when they did drop my limit from 750 to 600 b/c of a late payment, I asked how I could get the 750 reinstated. The CSR said "how's 1k?" -- and I said GREAT!
Mom's Macy's (also a former LSAyres card) is at 4.6k and has been stuck for years. She's never requested a CLI. She had an old joint acct w/ my deceased father and when she tried to have his name removed, she had to open a new acct. That acct has been open since 96. Her Macy's Visa limit is 3k.
speaking of bloomingdales, My friend and I have had an account for YEARS, If I request to be upgraded to Visa, is that based on account usage and soft pull or do they pull hard for visa.
I really want a pretty Ultimate Premier Bloomingdales Visa to match my Ultimate Premier Macys Visa! lol
