I applied for the Macyt's card online and was approved for $800 instantly. I called them a few days ago and they told me that they needed 6 months good payment history.

I *so* wish I'd read this 24 hours ago before I apped for the **bleep** thing. Oh, well, 1 INQ wasted.

Thank you for this info, though! I just put a note in my calendar to app in July.

Not true at all. I got my card Sept 2 and when I called them they told me to try back after 3 months. Called them again Dec 3: $600 to $1,500. Just wait until your 4th statement cuts and you should be fine.

Brammy -- any update on the elite status?  Is yours a Visa?  I just pulled EX and noticed I went from 1k to 2.5k (I was at 600 in Sept 07 and for about 3 years my TL was 100).  When I logged in to the Macys site it said I have Plat status, upgraded from Gold.  I'm curious as to how I get upgraded to the Visa.  I don't need to get the upgrade, but I'm really wondering how to get there.  I've had this account since 1990.  It's the only acct that survived the 'bad habit' days.

If anyone else  has experience going up to visa, please feel free to chime in!

ETA:  Question about visa, specifically.  I'm not sure I would get to Elite.  I do shop there quite a bit, but it would take buying furniture or something big to spend over 2.5k/year there for me!  I also need an 'in' with Citi and figure this might be ONE way to get it if they're paying attention!

Re: Macys

Just had to share this from yesterday and today. Based on all the great info here and the fact that we were heading to Macy's this weekend for something specific, I went ahead and app'd for Macy's yesterday. I just about fell over when I got instant approval - checked on the automated system for my limit and it was $500. Got to the store today, got great help with the food processor we needed (new detox diet, must work for credit too...) and went to check out. My lovely sales guy handed the phone over while doing the security check and another wonderful gentleman on the other end asked me three security questions. They were harder than my grad school app but I got them right - THEN he said to me "I see you were approved online for $500 but you are qualified for $1000, so I'm going to raise your limit." Whoa! I am still blown away! I love their kitchen department and this was something we'd earmarked funds for, so I'm boosting my credit at the same time. Every day should be this good! Told DH on the way out that we'll only use it when we have the savings to pay the charge off though. That's the other lesson (among many) I've learned on here.

Re: Macys

lol, ooh that's a good one! After being "credit scared" post-bk7 in 2001, I really thought no creditor would ever be that great with me. I was so surprised that he wasn't saying "I'm sorry, but we've decided we don't want to give you an account" that I didn't say much other than "Thanks!"

hmm, I wonder if I'll ever be blase about my credit-worthiness... oh wait! I'm here. The answer is NO!! Smiley Happy
