I currently do not have much need for a credit card, however I would really like Chase's Marriott Rewards Premier card. Mainly for the perks.
I have a short credit history --13months old-- due to not knowing anything about credit in college. 6-7 months ago I applied for this card, but was denied. The analyst said it was because they needed me to have had at least a $2,500 line of credit previously. However, I am not sure if this was %100 the reason because my score was not very high then.
I am wanting to apply again. I have a 751 Experian score and perfect history. My only faults are short history and $600 being my highest line of credit.
Do you think that I will be approved?

IIRC. The Rewards Premier is a VISA Signature and needs a $5K credit line for approval. (I.E. What the analyst told you. They want to see if you're able to handle a credit line that large.)
Scores don't matter. You theroetically could have a 850 but no history and still wouldn't be approved. (Impossible. I know. But Chase is picky.)
In short, no you will not be approved.
$600 being your highest line does not show Chase you're responsible for a higher line like the CSP/MRP etc require.
EDIT: I have this card, there is not many "perks" about it other than the 70K sign up bonus and free night cert.
Unless you exclusively stay at Marriott locations. I don't see much "perks" in the card.
Thank you for your reply. I have been pre-approved for Chase Slate and Freedom. In your opinion, should I apply for one of these in order to have a higher line of credit to one day be approved for the Marriott card? Also, would it be in my best interest to apply over the phone and let Chase know these are my intentions? My plan would be to get this card for the sole purpose of having a higher line of credit. I do not need a credit card and will probably use the card for only ~$100/mo so that there will be something post each month.
Yes, I use Marriott exclusively so the 70k and free night is why I want the card.
I have been an AU on my father's Chase card since 08 but found out yesterday that this has not been reported so hopefully that will change tomorrow and give me history. If this is done then this will this help my history, correct?
Thank you for your help.

Thank you for your help.
when i applied for the marriott card i only had just a bit under 4k in credit. 2k from amex, and the rest split between the BoA cards. My credit history was almost 2 years though but kept utilization low and never missed payments. I was approved for 7k, then my other two cards got a CLI about two months afater. I would not apply if you only have 600 in CL. i was a little nervous since i read that chase is hard to get approved for and the min 5k LC

As the other member said, Visa signature cards esepecally from chase require a 5k line or huger or other proof that you can handle large amount of credit. I.e a auto loan, mortgage, or other personal loans. Don't get the slate because it's a balance transfer card. Get the freedom because they can start you off at 500.
Thank you for all of your help..very lucky to have this input. You would assume that someone with a business degree would of been taught something about credit!
Josh, you say Freedom starts you off at 500. Any idea what the timeframe would be to get to a 5k line? Also, do I have to ask for the CL increases or are they given at certain intervals/quarters. I will have low usage, pay bills with debit card, so if I am not using it much will they even bother increasing? If that answer is no, then what is the best strategy for getting it eventually to 5k. 50% usage? 70% usage? I can use it for bills if need be.
Thanks again for your help. I understand that healthy credit does not happen overnight. I just want to know how to act and plan ahead.
Forgot to add that I currently have a 2 month old auto loan with a current balance of ~$25,000 paying $500/mo
Best bet is to get in with chase. Sign up for freedom card. Pay in full on time for 6 months and try your luck then.
Your chances are slim with a 600 bal cc. CSP, marriot and the other co branded cards all start at 5k limits. And they would prefer to see you have at least 9–12 months of payment history with them.
I'm quite pleased with mine. Since jan I've managed to acumulate 94k in points(70k sign up). Good enough for 2 free highs at the Cosmo in Vegas.

Sounds like a plan. I believe my next steps will be getting with Chase and applying for the Freedom.
Thanks.
