They probably just did a sweep and did a bunch of CLDs at once. There really is no reason for them to leave that much credit out there on one card when its not being utilized. Someone steals the card and runs up a 40k+ bill and cap one has to eat that loss? I'd CLD it too. Also, this card wasn't approved with that limit. It was achieved by combining limits across multiple cards. When a limit is spread across multiple cards the exposure of cap 1 is mitigated to a certain extent. When its all on one card there is a much bigger chance of things going sideways. Its one thing is someone is actually using a large portion of the credit line but when its not being used for long durations or never fully utilized then I can see cap 1 not wanting to leave it out there and it likes has nothing to do with their concern about the card holder not paying them back.
It will be interesting to see if Cap One limits account combination and/or the total CL of combined accounts.

Yes, well, I checked my accounts this morning, and they CLD my QS VS from $30,750 to $10k. Interestingly, they left my QS WMC (my oldest card) at $17,750.
I've had the QS VS for just over a year, and I moved all of my monthly utilities and charges onto that card to keep it used. In addition, I would alternate it with my Citi DC card as a daily driver. I don't charge insane amounts of $$$ on my cards, but I do most of my transacting with cards, rarely ever carrying cash.
So, I'll just close the card - I've been looking to prune, and this is as good a reason as any.

Sorry to hear.. Appears another round is going around.. Seems to impact as prior anyone over 25k-30k+ CL's might be caught up in this and the last sweep of reducing CL's. Sure there are many other factors, but big CL's is certainly one of them and pushing them down to 10k was what they did last time to alot of people as well.. Some got pushed down to 5k as well. I just closed mine as well when it happened to me as the APR was not impressive at 18% and a 10k CL wasn't bad, but have many cards with better CL's, APR's and rewards

I don't think there need to be any other factors. A large credit line that is not being used would be enough to trigger this. Its sucks for people who keep the cards open for credit util purposes or just to have credit on standby if they need it.
Sorry to hear iheartwings!

iheartwings: Sorry they got you also. But just curious: Was $30750 the result of a single approval and maybe CLIs? OR was it the result of combining accounts? We're just trying to get a handle on if account combination is playing a role in all or most of the CLDs. Thanks.
